In Vancouver there are plentiful pet-friendly accommodations and a public transport system that allows small dogs to travel with you. Although bringing your pup to join you inside restaurants, patios across the city are more than welcoming if you and your dog want to chill out for a bite to eat or for a quick drinks. Dogs are generally welcome in parks on lead, but a great place to explore is Yoyogi Koen in Shibuya-ku. 5. London (England)

In a country where the Queen has had Corgis all her life and the prime minister goes jogging with his pooch, it's only natural that the capital caters to dogs. London is indeed a dog-friendly city. There are plenty of parks, you can take your pooch on public transport, and there are numerous pubs and restaurants that accept dogs. In a city housing the Queen’s most royal Corgis, London is bound to be home to numerous dogs who live a pretty cosmopolitan life. There are several large parks across the city, such as Holland Park and Hyde Park, offering opportunities to fetch and run off-leash. The public transport is also pretty laid back. When it comes to bringing your dog on the train (underground or bus), as long as your pup isn’t occupying a seat when it is busy, you are all good. While the shops and restaurants are more strict than other European cities, you can not forget the Great British pubs, most of which are dog-friendly. Many of them also have beer gardens, so you and your four-legged friend can soak up the rare sunshine over a pint.

6. Paris (France)

Parisian dogs can walk into most brasseries and boutiques, like any human would. In fact, they are welcome in most places. Paris boasts many incredible parks where our four-legged friends can enjoy a bit of nature in the city. Bois de Boulogne and Bois de Vincennes are just a few examples. Paris adores their canine counterparts, whether you are exploring Montmartre or sitting in a café, you will be sure to meet several cute dogs who are enjoying the city just as much as you. Parisians welcome dogs in their boutiques and brasseries as they would any human being. Some businesses even supply a chair for your dog and a water bowl to ensure they’re receiving a warm welcome. As with Amsterdam, museums and galleries are less welcoming when it comes to doggy guests. For a taste of the Parisian air and a chance to explore paths lined with flowers instead of boutiques, Bois de Boulogne and Bois de Vincennes are two parks that your dog will love. They are so large that they dwarf New York’s Central Park.






7. Prague (Czech Republic)

Prague is an uber cool European destination, and probably one of the few where you have an historical art-house movie theater where dogs are allowed! At Aero, you can enjoy a good indie film in the company of your four-legged friend. And then, of course, you have plenty of nice areas to take your dog for a walk, such as the city's historical center and Letna Park. Prague has not traditionally been sought out as a pet-friendly destination, however the city has drastically changed over the years. Dogs are welcome to explore all the sites and join you as you dine in the restaurants. Some places are even kind enough to provide a small meal for your pup. Prague’s Letna Park also allows your pup to wander and play off-leash while you indulge in the numerous beer gardens en route. For a unique experience, you can bring your pooch along to see the latest blockbuster at the dog-friendly Aero cinema. They even host a film festival for dogs named, "Aero Pes Fest" every year.






8. Sydney (Australia)

While most main beaches do not allow dogs, the Aussie city caters to them by having dedicated beaches for the pooches. Head north and you will find Rowland Reserve, the city's most popular dog beach, as well as the pet-friendly Flora and Ritchie Roberts Reserve. For doggies looking to live that surfer-beach life, then Sydney is the place to be. Although dogs are banned from many of Sydney’s most famous beaches, there are many more that offer than chance for your pup to splash around in the ocean and try and catch the waves. Rowland Reserve is one of Sydney’s most popular dog beaches, with an exercising area plus a coffee cart, dog wash business and a pub to keep you interested. Another example is Flora and Richie Roberts Reserve. While the latter isn't directly on the beach, there are grassy dunes which are great for running and off-leash playtime is permitted at all times. 9. Geneva (Switzerland)

The city is as dog-friendly as it gets. Head to Parc Bertrand and let your pooch roam free in its fenced area. Dog ownership was taken so seriously by the Swiss government that, until 2017, dog owners had to attend an obligatory training course! The government no longer has this requirement in place. The Swiss take owning a dog very seriously. In this country, owners have to pass a written and practical test before they can even think about bringing a dog home. 10. Rome (Italy)

Romans do love their dogs, and they are certainly welcomed in most places in the Italian capital. Nearby Baubeach is a essentially a beach for people with dogs. Here, pooches can roam free, play, and have lots of fun! If we are being honest, Lady and the Tramp has us all enamored with the image of dogs sharing a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. While spaghetti isn’t good food for your pup, the dog-friendly restaurants in Rome will be happy to put together a couple of meatballs for your pooch to enjoy. Did someone mention beaches for dogs? Tel Aviv has them! Parks for dogs? Sure! And how about movie nights for dogs? Absolutely! The Israeli city is truly dog-friendly in every aspect. There is even a municipal membership service for dogs, where owners have access to information on nearby facilities, vets, and parks, among other things. Tel Aviv calls itself the world’s most "dog friendly city". The city has everything for your pooch, there are beaches for dogs, parks for dogs, and even film nights for dogs. They’ve even launched a municipal digital service for dogs. This is a membership card system that gives dog owners access to important information and special offers, including reminders about vaccinations, lists of nearby veterinarians, all the way down to directions to the nearest dog park. Dogs rule the roost in Tel Aviv, where the dog-to-human ratio is an astonishing 1:17. The city is known as “The Mediterranean Capital of Cool,” and has four dog-friendly beaches as well as 70 dog parks. Its most famous beach is located between the northern Hilton beach and the religious beach, where you will discover a slew of joyful, wet pups splashing in the waves. Should you want to spend time in the sun with your dog, head to Alma Beach in the south. Dogs are welcome to play while you soak up some sun. 12. Amsterdam

(Netherlands)

Unlike many other cities, in Amsterdam dogs are allowed in most places. Those that do not allow dogs usually have a sign - think mostly galleries and museums. The Dutch like their pooches, and you'll sure find many happy dogs around, playing in every corner of the city. The Dutch are known to be extremely dog-friendly. Pups are generally allowed in most establishments, except museums and galleries. This means you do not have to look for the approval of a “dogs welcome” sign. Instead, you and your pooch can stroll right in unless there is a sign stating otherwise. Dogs of all sizes, from Great Danes to Chihuahuas are also welcome on public transport for free, except for trains which charge three euros for a doggy day pass. Amsterdam is not a country that’s warm all year round, however when things start to defrost in Spring, there are numerous outdoor terraces, off-leash and impeccably kept parks, and even a swimming area at Flevopark where dogs can paddle away.






13. Berlin (Germany)

Berlin is widely considered one of the most dog-friendly cities in Europe. Dogs are welcome in most parks, restaurants, and public transportation networks. All public transport in the city is pet-friendly, so you can take your pooch with you everywhere! This cultural hub is probably one of the most dog–friendly destinations in Europe. Restaurants & Shops: Many dog-friendly cafés and department stores welcome leashed dogs indoors, but it's always best to look for a "dogs allowed" sticker on the door or ask an employee. 15. Barcelona (Spain)

While the grounds around Edinburgh Castle are open to dogs, they are not allowed inside the castle itself, with the exception of assistance dogs. 23. Tallinn (Estonia)

Dining & Shopping: Many cafes and restaurants in neighborhoods like Kalamaja, Kadriorg, and the Rotermann Quarter welcome dogs indoors. You can check ahead or look for pet-friendly stickers on storefronts. Parks & Walks: The city is very walkable, with lush green spaces like Kadriorg Park and extensive coastal paths in Pirita. There are also several fully fenced dog parks and exercise areas located throughout the city. To enter Estonia, your dog must have a valid EU pet passport, a microchip, and up-to-date rabies vaccination. While dogs are welcome in most places, they are generally not allowed inside museums, churches, or specific swimming zones on popular beaches like Stroomi. This compact historic city is charmingly dog-friendly, from the cafes to the trams to the people – we were even allowed to visit inside one museum with our dog in our arms! Do not miss heading up Toompea Hill for the best views of the historic city centre. Toom Park, just to the west of the Old Town, is also a great spot to visit – it even has an off-leash dog park. Also make some time to relax in the Telliskivi district, at its many cafes and bars.






24. Vilnius (Lithuania)

Vilnius is an incredibly dog-friendly city. Dogs are widely welcomed in outdoor cafe terraces, public transportation, and massive green spaces. Parks & Outdoor Activities: Vilnius is one of Europe's greenest capitals, making it ideal for walking your dog. Vingis Park: A sprawling, massive park perfect for long, leashed strolls or off-leash running. Cathedral Square & Užupis: The picturesque, cobblestone Old Town and the artistic Užupis district are fantastic for exploring. Dog Parks: The city features several dedicated, fenced dog parks (such as the Purina Dog Park in Šnipiškės) equipped with agility obstacles. Cafes & Dining: Terraces: Most cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating warmly welcome dogs. Many establishments even display a friendly paw sticker on their door to indicate they allow pets indoors. National Campaign: Over 1,000 businesses across Lithuania (including major cafes) are certified by the Draugiški Gyvūnams (Pet-Friendly) campaign, letting you know your dog is welcome. Pets can ride public transport buses and trolleybuses completely for free. Smaller dogs can travel in carriers, while larger dogs must be on a leash and wear a muzzle.






25. Riga (Latvia)

Riga is a highly dog-friendly city. Your canine companion is welcome across much of the city, from public transit and shopping centers to many restaurants and expansive outdoor parks. The capital of Latvia is a wonderful destination ; it has been selected by thousands of travellers as one of the best destinations for a city break in Europe. With more than 230 pet friendly accommodations, Riga is also one of the best pet friendly destinations in Europe. Public Transit: Dogs are allowed on all Riga public transport (buses, trams, and trolleybuses). They must be leashed, and larger dogs should be muzzled. Shopping Centers: Select malls and complexes, such as Rīga Plaza and Sky and More, welcome dogs in common areas and designated stores. Many pubs, bars, and cafes allow well-behaved dogs inside, especially those with outdoor terraces during the warmer months. Look for pet-friendly stickers on doors or always ask the staff before entering. Lucavsala Dog Park: The city's largest specialized dog-walking park, featuring secure training equipment and a designated safe area for dogs to swim in the river. Mežaparks & Victory Park: Excellent, large green spaces with expansive walking paths and dog-friendly cafes nearby. Dog Beaches: There are specific coastal areas where dogs can run freely and swim, most notably at Mangaļsala near the sea. Many properties - from luxury hotels like Wellton Centrum Hotel & Spa to downtown serviced apartments like Bearsleys Downtown Apartments - gladly welcome pets.






26. Nice (France)

Paris is the epicentre of France and the main destination for tourists, but I’m going to go out on a limb and nominate Nice as a more dog-friendly city in France to visit. Although I think part of the charm of our visit to the city was visiting outside of the busy summer period, but still during delightful sunny weather. The star attraction in Nice is the 7km-long Promenade des Anglais, the perfect place for a stroll with your pooch. Don’t also miss exploring the city’s historic centre and parks, recently listed as a World Heritage Site for being the "winter resort town of the Riviera". Keep in mind that dogs are unfortunately not allowed on most of Nice’s beaches, although the rules tend to be relaxed during the winter. There are however two dog-friendly beaches in the city, Lenval and La Lanterne. Nice is widely considered one of the most dog-friendly cities in Europe and has frequently ranked first in France for its pet-friendly policies. Dogs are warmly welcomed across public transport, certain beaches, and various establishments throughout the city. Nice features year-round, designated dog-friendly beaches, such as Plage de la Lanterne and Plage de Carras, where your pet can splash and play. Dogs are allowed on the city's tram lines and buses. Small dogs travel for free in a carrier, while larger dogs must be leashed and muzzled. The city offers over 150 accessible parks and numerous restaurant terraces where dogs are welcome. The tourist board even created a "Pet Friendly" label to help you spot certified hotels, restaurants, and shops.






27. Naples (Italy)

Naples is a very dog-friendly city! Italy as a whole has a welcoming culture towards pets, and Naples extends this hospitality by allowing dogs in many of its hotels, public parks, and outdoor dining areas. The Italians are great lovers of dogs, and this is also the case in the southern city of Naples. Although I must admit it also has the biggest issue with dog poo underfoot out of any European city. The best way to enjoy an afternoon in Naples is to go for a wander through its alleyways, in between its towering buildings that look like they have been built in every century of the last two millennium. There’s no need to sit down at a restaurant (although most will welcome dogs inside), with plenty of street food options, from arancini to baba au Rhum. Plenty of other locals will also be out and about with their dogs. Perhaps stop off at the Santa Chiara Monastery complex, also home to an off-leash dog yard, so your dog can enjoy a play with the locals. Parc of Capodimonte: This massive, beautiful historic park is fantastic for a long walk. It features designated off-leash dog areas so your pup can burn off some energy. City Promenades: The waterfront promenades (like Via Caracciolo and Via Partenope) are bustling with locals walking their dogs and offer incredible views of the sea and Mount Vesuvius. Many restaurants, cafes, and trattorias with outdoor seating happily welcome dogs. Castel dell'Ovo: You can walk around the exterior and certain authorized areas of this iconic seaside castle with your leashed dog. Pompeii: Believe it or not, dogs on a leash are permitted in the world-famous archaeological site of Pompei.






28. Milan (Italy)

Milan is incredibly dog-friendly. Your furry companion is allowed in most cafes, retail stores, and public transit systems (where large dogs can ride for free if muzzled). The city boasts over 400 parks and specific off-leash dog zones. Key Dog-Friendly Highlights: Public Transport: Dogs ride Milan's subway and buses for free. Smaller dogs must be in a carrier, while larger dogs require a leash and muzzle. Dining & Shopping: Well-behaved dogs are typically welcomed at cafes, restaurants (especially on outdoor terraces), and shopping centers. Even high-end spots like the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II welcome pets. Parks & Green Spaces: Milan features over 400 parks. Famous spots like Parco Sempione and Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli have dedicated area cani (dog areas) where your pup can run off-leash. The city requires you to carry a muzzle with you at all times in case you need to use it on public transit or in crowded spaces. While many parks and open-air centers are accessible, dogs generally are not allowed inside major cultural monuments or historic buildings (like the Duomo interior). Milan, Italy’s fashion city, is more than just high-end couture and designer labels. It is also a pet owner’s delight. This city has a long history and culture of welcoming pets, with plenty of dog parks, 580 pet-friendly hotels, and many pet-friendly restaurants to pick from. Many hotels in the city provide amenities and services tailored to your pet, such as designated pet spaces, food and water bowls, and snacks. The Michelangelo, Baglioni, and Principe di Savoia hotels will make you and your pet feel right at home, with large rooms and pet-friendly rules. When it comes to getting around Milan with your furry companion, there is no need to worry. Pets are allowed on all public transport services, and it is easy to bring them along - just make sure you have your pet passport with you.






29. Venice (Italy)

Enjoy some homemade tiramisu at the dog-friendly, Barcarretto or sip a smoothie at 60/40 Venezia. Touring through Europe with your four-legged friend may be the vacation you have dreamed about. Venice is generally a welcoming destination for dogs, but it can be challenging due to the heavy crowds, narrow bridges, and staircases. Your dog is permitted on the Vaporettos (water buses) and in many restaurants, but you must keep them on a leash and carry a muzzle at all times. Dogs can ride the public water buses for free. However, Italian law requires that you carry a muzzle with you, as officials may ask you to put it on your dog. Venice consists entirely of pedestrian-only walkways and hundreds of arched bridges. Dogs must be able to handle steep steps, or you must be prepared to carry them. Dogs are highly welcomed in most restaurants, bars, and even many shops. Many outdoor dining spots will happily provide a water bowl. For some off-leash time or a quiet stroll, head to the parks at Parco delle Rimembranze or the Giardini Pubblici. Venice is not only the city of lovers, it is also the one of the Best Dog-Friendly Cities in Europe with more than 500 pet-friendly accommodations from the most famous palaces such as the Baglioni Hotel Luna or the Westin Europa & Regina to dozens of affordable hotels and appartments; treat your pet to an unforgettable stay in Venice such as a traditional gondola experience, a boat trip to Murano island or a ticket to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum.






30. Vienna (Austria)

Vienna is generally a very dog-friendly city. Dogs are welcome on all forms of public transportation and in most restaurants and cafes. However, they are restricted from most museums and must be kept on a leash or muzzled in designated areas. Vienna is elegant, efficient, and surprisingly pet-focused. Dogs are allowed on trams and trains, as long as they are muzzled or in a carrier, and you will find bowls of water outside many restaurants and shops. From classic cafes to palace gardens, this city is a unique place to explore with your dog. Public Transport: Dogs are allowed on all U-Bahn (subway), tram, and bus lines. Requirements: Your dog must wear a muzzle and be on a leash. You must also purchase a reduced-price ticket for the dog, unless you use the Vienna City Card, which allows one dog to ride for free. Restaurants & Cafes: Pets are allowed in the vast majority of cafes and restaurants. It is quite common for waiters to immediately bring a bowl of water for your dog. Attractions: Dogs are strictly prohibited from museums and inside palaces (like Schönbrunn Palace or the Hofburg).






31. Graz (Austria)

Graz is an incredibly dog-friendly city. Dogs are widely welcomed on public transit, in most cafes, and across numerous green spaces. While the Austrian capital of Vienna is home to countless museums, I found much of the charm of the smaller city of Graz in its outdoor spaces, where dogs are welcome to join you. Head to its beautiful Old Town, home to many buildings from different eras – there’s even some wonderful modern architecture. Don’t miss taking the elevator to the top of the Schlossberg, with dogs also allowed in the elevator. Once the site to a fortress, enjoy a wander through its lovely gardens. And of course it wouldn’t be fitting to visit Graz, without enjoy a hearty meal at one of the many traditional restaurants in its Old Town. Schlossberg & Stadtpark: These large, central green spaces are perfect for walks and hikes with excellent views. Dogs are welcome on a leash, and there are designated dog zones for off-leash play. Designated Dog Parks: The city maintains numerous off-leash dog zones (called Hundezonen) where dogs can run freely. Most dining establishments in Graz are happy to accommodate well-behaved dogs, often providing a fresh bowl of water. Dogs are permitted on Graz public transit (trams and buses), though they require a valid ticket and must be muzzled and kept on a leash. For 24/7 veterinary care, Tierklinik Schwarzl in nearby Seiersberg is readily available.






32. Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

Rio de Janeiro is considered a highly dog-friendly city. Pets are woven into the city's everyday culture, with dogs frequently seen on sidewalks, at outdoor cafes, and in numerous off-leash parks. Beaches: Iconic stretches of sand like Praia do Diabo (Devil's Beach) and specific zones near Barra da Tijuca allow dogs to play on the sand. Dog Parks: The city features fenced-in dog parks (known locally as parcões). The Parcão Lagoon in the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas area is one of the most popular off-leash spots for dogs to socialize and play. Parks & Promenades: The Aterro do Flamengo and Copacabana boardwalk are perfect for long, scenic, leash-led walks. Shopping Malls: High-end shopping centers like Rio Design Barra are officially pet-friendly and allow dogs inside. You can find comfortable accommodations at well-known hotels like the Sofitel Ipanema or the Hilton Barra. Numerous pet-friendly cafes and restaurants (e.g., Frutaria Sao Paulo and Banana Cafe) have outdoor seating areas that welcome dogs. Always carry poop bags, as failing to clean up after your pet can result in fines. While some beaches and designated parks permit off-leash play, dogs should be kept on a leash in all other public spaces. Rio is known for its iconic beaches, but it also has a surprisingly strong dog-friendly scene. Dogs are allowed on many beaches and in public parks, and some of the city’s best outdoor spots welcome leashed pups. If you plan to visit Rio with your dog, early mornings and late afternoons are best to avoid the heat, but you’ll find plenty of places to explore together.






33. Lima (Peru)

Lima is considered a highly dog-friendly city, especially in upscale and bohemian districts like Miraflores, Barranco, and San Isidro. You will find plenty of outdoor parks, dog-welcoming cafes, and beachfront walking paths to enjoy with your pup. Parks & Open Spaces: Miraflores’ Malecón (clifftop boardwalk) and the beautiful Bosque El Olivar in San Isidro are fantastic for leashed walks. For off-leash play, Parque Kennedy in Miraflores is incredibly popular. Dog-Friendly Cafes: Many local cafes feature outdoor terraces where pets are welcome. Popular spots include Armonica Cafe (Miraflores), La Bodega Verde (Barranco), and Beso Frances (Miraflores & Barranco). Dog Parks: The city features specific agility parks and dog theme parks, such as Play Land Can in San Borja and Mundo de las 4 patas in Surco. Always keep your pet on a leash and carry waste bags. Regulations are strictly enforced in districts like Miraflores. Lima is a coastal capital that combines urban parks with ocean views. It has a laid-back vibe, and more restaurants and businesses are becoming dog-friendly. You will find a strong dog-owner community here, especially in the Miraflores district. Lima’s cliffs and coastal parks offer some of the best urban walking trails in South America.






34. Bogotá (Colombia)

Bogotá is widely considered an incredibly dog-friendly city, where pets are welcomed in most parks, shopping malls, public transport systems, and a growing number of cafes and restaurants. Bogotá sits high in the Andes and has a surprisingly cool climate, which makes it a great place for dogs year-round. With over 200 parks and an increasing number of pet-friendly restaurants, this city is embracing its dog-loving side. You will also find markets, public spaces, and walking tours that make it easy to explore the city without leaving your dog behind. Public Transit: Dogs are permitted on Bogotá's TransMilenio bus system and the regional train (Tren de la Sabana), though larger dogs are required to wear a muzzle. Shopping Centers: Unlike many cities, most major malls in Bogotá (such as Parque La Colina or Atlantis Plaza) are fully pet-friendly, allowing you to walk your dog indoors while shopping or dining. Outdoor Spaces: The city boasts massive green areas perfect for dogs, including Parque Simón Bolívar and Parque El Virrey. Many neighborhoods also have fenced-in, off-leash dog parks (zonas caninas). The Ciclovía: Every Sunday and public holiday, the city closes major roads to cars for the famous Ciclovía. This event allows thousands of dog owners to run, walk, and bike alongside their dogs in the middle of the street. Pet Services: The city has a booming pet-care industry. You will easily find dog walkers, pet-friendly hotels (like the Spotty Bogota Centro or Hab Hotel), and dedicated daycares or "pet universities" where dogs can socialize and train while their owners are away.






35. Moscow (Russia)

Moscow is widely considered the most dog-friendly city in Russia. With a massive and continuously expanding pet infrastructure, the capital features a growing number of dog-friendly cafes, specialized dog walking parks, and dedicated pet-friendly hotels. Dog Parks: The city features numerous equipped, fenced-in dog training and play areas (such as the sprawling 1,500 square meter facility in the Losinoostrovsky district). Green Spaces: Expansive, dog-friendly parks like Gorky Park, Sokolniki, and VDNH have designated walking paths and pet-friendly cafes scattered throughout. Accommodations: There are hundreds of pet-welcoming accommodations - from top-rated spots like the Moscow Marriott Imperial Plaza Hotel to various BringFido Moscow approved apartments. There are many parks with dogs allowed on-leash.






36. Dublin (Ireland)

Dublin is increasingly dog-friendly, though with some limitations. While you will easily find welcoming parks, cafes, and pubs, bringing pets into larger retail shops or finding pet-friendly rental housing can be quite difficult. Parks & Walkways: Phoenix Park: Europe's largest enclosed city park; dogs are allowed on-lead nearly everywhere and off-lead in designated areas. Central Squares: Historic spots like St Stephen's Green and Merrion Square are perfect for scenic, on-leash walks right in the city center. Dog-Friendly Eateries: Ruff Café: Located on Clanbrassil Street, this popular cafe features an actual dog menu (complete with pupcakes and peanut butter doughnuts). Bonobo (Smithfield) & The Royal Oak (Kilmainham): Great local pubs that welcome dogs, often providing treats or a spot by the fire. Dogs are permitted on DART and commuter trains, but they must be properly restrained, on a lead, and wear a muzzle or be carried in a basket. Many accommodations - ranging from boutique spots in Georgian quarters like Pembroke Townhouse to larger chains, welcome dogs, though you should always confirm weight limits and fees beforehand.






37. Budapest (Hungary)

Budapest is widely regarded as one of the most dog-friendly cities in Europe. Dogs are welcome in most parks, outdoor cafes, and public transportation networks, though they are typically restricted from indoor museums, churches, and thermal baths. Dog-Friendly Activities & Parks: Outdoor Sightseeing: You can freely stroll with leashed dogs around the outdoor grounds of major landmarks like the Buda Castle, the Fisherman's Bastion, and along the Danube promenade. City Parks: Margaret Island and City Park (Városliget) feature large, open green spaces and designated off-leash dog zones (called kutyafuttató in Hungarian). Hiking: For active dogs, the Buda Hills and Normafa areas offer fantastic walking and hiking trails. Budapest has an excellent, pet-friendly public transit system. Dogs are allowed on the metro, buses, and trams under the following conditions: Leash & Muzzle: Your dog must be leashed and muzzled for the duration of the ride. Carriers: Small dogs traveling in a closed carrier or transport bag ride free of charge. Tickets: Larger dogs require a standard, single-journey public transport ticket or a valid dog pas. Most of the city’s hip ruin bars in the Jewish Quarter and cafes with outdoor terrace seating are highly accommodating to dogs, often providing water bowls and treats. However, indoor shopping malls and standard grocery stores typically do not allow dogs.






38. Sofia (Bulgaria)

Sofia (Bulgaria) is generally a very dog-friendly city. You will find large green parks, a growing number of pet-friendly cafes and restaurants, and excellent access to nature trails right on the city's doorstep. Top Parks & Green Spaces: Borisova Gradina: This expansive, leafy park is the largest in Sofia and perfect for long, shaded walks with your pup. Vitosha Mountain: Located just a short trip from the city center, this massive nature park features miles of hiking trails where dogs can explore freely. South Park (Yuzhen Park): A massive favorite among local dog owners. It features designated areas where dogs can run off-leash and socialize. Doctor's Garden: A smaller, central park that is highly popular for short morning and evening strolls. Dining & Shopping: Outdoor Terraces: Many restaurants, bars, and bistros with outdoor seating gladly welcome dogs. Notable spots like Spaghetti Kitchen, Wonderland, and Aubergine are well-known for allowing canine companions. Malls: Some of the major shopping centers in the city, like Ring Mall, are known to be pet-friendly.






39. Belgrade (Serbia)

Belgrade is an incredibly dog-friendly city. Dogs are warmly welcomed across the city, featuring dozens of dedicated dog parks, pet-friendly restaurants, and scenic green spaces. Parks & Green Spaces: Large green areas like the historic Kalemegdan Park, Tašmajdan, and Topčider are perfect for walking and playing. Dog Beaches: The Ada Ciganlija river island features dedicated off-leash dog beaches where your pup can swim and socialize. Cafés & Dining: Most coffee shops, bars, and restaurants in popular areas like Dorćol and Vračar allow dogs to sit quietly inside or on the outdoor terrace with you. Spots like Smokvica and Toro Latin Gastrobar are famously accommodating to pets. Veterinary Care: The city is home to several high-quality veterinary clinics, including the only 24-hour vet hospital in Serbia. Dogs are generally not permitted inside large supermarkets or pharmacies, and a muzzle is technically required by law for larger dogs on public transportation, though enforcement can vary.






40. Reykjavik (Iceland)

Reykjavik is moderately dog-friendly, but it has strict municipal regulations and a unique history with pets. While dogs are widely accepted today, pet ownership requires adherence to mandatory city registrations, vaccination laws, and strict leash rules. Reykjavik offers a unique experience for dog owners with its pet-friendly parks and accommodations. The city’s green spaces, such as the Elliðaárdalur Valley, provide ample room for dogs to run and explore. Many of Reykjavik’s hotels and cafes are welcoming to pets, ensuring that your dog can accompany you during your stay. The city’s scenic landscapes and outdoor activities offer plenty of stimulation for dogs. Reykjavik’s cool climate and relaxed atmosphere make it an excellent destination for exploring with your furry friend. Dogs will enjoy the chance to experience Iceland’s natural beauty and enjoy the city’s pet-friendly amenities. Dog ownership was completely banned in the city limits until 1984, and the official ban was not fully lifted until 2006. Because of this, cats are far more common than dogs in the city. Dogs must be kept on a leash in public areas, but the city maintains designated off-leash zones. You can use the Reykjavik City Viewer to locate specific leash-free parks. There are excellent open spaces and trails for walking, such as Geldinganes Island, which functions as a large off-leash area with views of the city. You can also find curated hiking trails on AllTrails.






41. Stockholm (Sweden)

Stockholm is exceptionally dog-friendly. Dogs are welcome in green spaces, many outdoor cafés, and various establishments across the city. You can easily navigate with your pet, as public transportation allows dogs at no extra cost. Metro, Buses, and Trams: Dogs are permitted on SL transit networks completely free of charge. Rules: They must sit on the floor or in your lap and cannot occupy seats. Look for specifically marked carriages or areas for pets. Cafés & Restaurants: While indoor spaces can be hit-or-miss, many coffee shops (like the famous Vete-Katten) and restaurants gladly welcome dogs on outdoor terraces. Specialty Spots: Neighborhoods like Södermalm and Östermalm feature dog-friendly boutiques and even dedicated dog bakeries like Dog Bakery Stockholm. Malls: Many shopping centers allow dogs, though it is always recommended to check individual store policies before entering. Parks & Nature: Leash Laws: Dogs must be kept on a leash in urban areas, public spaces, and parks. Nature reserves require leashes at all times to protect local wildlife. Off-Leash Areas: The city features several designated fenced dog parks (rastgårdar) where dogs can run freely. For great off-leash nature walks and swimming, check out the Drottningholm Palace Park (which features a designated "dog island") or the trails on the island of Djurgården.






42. Seoul (South Korea)

Seoul is highly dog-friendly, offering an ever-growing array of pet-friendly parks, cafes, and specialized shopping centers. While there are still rules, such as requiring dogs to be in enclosed carriers on public transit and leashed in public spaces - the city has rapidly embraced pet culture. Parks and Outdoor Spaces: Han River Parks: Huge, sprawling green spaces perfect for long walks, fetch, and doggy picnics. Seoul Forest & Olympic Park: Popular, pet-friendly urban oases with plenty of space. Off-Leash Dog Parks: Free, city-run agility parks are available, including designated areas at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo-gu and Children's Grand Park in Gwangjin-gu. Starfield Malls: Just outside the city, these mega-malls are famously pet-friendly. Dogs are allowed in select stores (look for stickers at the doors), and they even offer stroller rentals, special pet areas, and high-end pet supplies at Molly's Pet Shop. Dog Cafes: Seoul has a thriving cafe culture where you can relax with your pet or play with resident dogs. Terrace Cafes: Many modern, aesthetic cafes (especially in neighborhoods like Yeonnam-dong or Hannam-dong) welcome dogs in their outdoor seating areas. Hotel Cappuccino: Located in Gangnam, this boutique hotel is known for its designated "Bark Rooms," which include specialty pet amenities like birch plywood dog houses and in-room pet dining menus. You can bring your dog on public transportation, but they must be kept fully inside an enclosed pet carrier or bag at all times. Dogs must be leashed in all public areas. Be prepared for smaller, larger, and highly active dogs to be pushed in customized pet strollers, a very common sight in Seoul.






43. Sao Paulo (Brasil)

São Paulo is highly dog-friendly. The city boasts expansive urban parks, hundreds of dog-welcoming cafes and restaurants, and plenty of pet-friendly accommodations, making it incredibly easy to navigate with your furry companion. Parks & Outdoor Spaces: Parque Ibirapuera: The city's crown jewel, featuring wide paths and massive green lawns perfect for leashed walks. The Beaches & Seafront: Winter/Spring: Dogs are permitted on all beaches from October 1 to April 30. Summer/Autumn: Between May 1 and September 30, restrictions apply. While there, indulge in a chocolate tour or shop the famous Market Square. Bruges is incredibly dog-friendly! It is widely considered one of Europe's best city breaks for traveling with a pup. Dogs are welcomed in many outdoor spaces, cafes, and even certain museums, though there are a few limitations to keep in mind. The historic city center is very walkable. Popular green spaces like Minnewater Park (Lake of Love) and the walking paths along the old city ramparts are perfect for strolls. You can bring your dog along to the Bruges Beer Experience or De Halve Maan Brewery. Most cafes and restaurants with outdoor terraces are happy to accommodate dogs and will usually bring out a water bowl. Dogs are generally not allowed inside traditional museums (like the Groeningemuseum) or historic sites (like the Basilica of the Holy Blood). The historic old town is made up of cobblestone streets, which can be tough on smaller dogs' paws or older joints. While some private or specialized boat tour companies allow dogs, it is not a blanket rule, so you will need to verify with the operator beforehand.

Franklin Terrace Dog Park has a designed area where you can let your dog off of its leash, and Victory Prairie Dog Park is a 2.5 fenced in park where you and your dog can play freely. Also, don't forget to visit the Lake Harriet Rose Garden. It's a great spot for taking a walk or relaxing with your pup. Off-Leash Dog Parks: Minneapolis features about 9 designated off-leash areas, including the highly popular 6-acre Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park. Other favorites include the Loring Park and Lake of the Isles dog parks.
