SIBERIAN HUSKY

Country: SIBERIA

The Siberian Husky was originally developed by the Chukchi people of the Chukchi Peninsula in eastern Siberia. They were brought to Nome, Alaska in 1908 to serve as working sled dogs, and were eventually developed and used for sled dog racing. The Siberian Husky is a breed of medium-sized working sled dog. The breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family. It is recognizable by its thickly furred double coat, erect triangular ears, and distinctive markings, and is smaller than the similar-looking Alaskan Malamute.

The Black and Tan Coonhound is a breed of hunting dog. Developed in the United States from crosses between the Bloodhound and the Black and Tan Virginia Foxhound, this scent hound runs its game entirely by scent and is used primarily for raccoon hunting.

The Karakachan dog is a breed that originated from Bulgaria. It is related to the livestock guardian dogs of the surrounding countries: Romania to the north, North Macedonia and Serbia to the west, and Greece, and Turkey to the south. The dog is named after the Karakachans, Greek nomadic shepherds.

The Chilean Terrier is the first breed of dog from Chile. The breed dates back to the late 19th century, resulting from the crossing of the Smooth Fox Terrier with the Ratonero Bodeguero Andaluz. This dog is recognised by the Kennel Club of Chile, but is not recognized by the FCI yet.

COLOMBIAN FINO HOUND

Country: COLOMBIA

The Colombian Fino Hound is a breed of scent hound from Colombia. It is believed the Colombian Fino Hound descends from scent hounds imported into Colombia, the breed has been known in the country for at least two centuries although there is some evidence that some of the breed's ancestors have been in the country for up to 350 years.The breed is found within rural communities, particularly in the north of the country, and is considered part of peasant culture. The breed is recognised by Colombia's national kennel club, the Asociaciรณn Club Canino Colombiano, and in 2015 it was estimated there were as many as 10,000 examples of the breed within Colombia.

The Bully Kutta is a type of large dog that originated in the Indian subcontinent, dating back to the 16th century. The Bully Kutta is a working dog used for hunting and guarding. The type is popular in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan, including Haryana and Delhi.

The Kintamani, or the Kintamani-Bali Dog, is a dog breed native to the Indonesian island of Bali. Originally from the Kintamani region, it is a popular dog amongst residents on the island and the region's only official breed, having been developed from free-roaming local Bali street dogs.

PUNGSAN DOG

Country: KOREA

The Pungsan dog is a breed of hunting dog from Korea, named for originating in Kimhyonggwon County, formerly Pungsan County. They are also called Phungsan, Korean Phungsan, or Poongsan dogs. They were bred in the Kaema highlands of what is now North Korea, and were traditionally used as hunting dogs. The dog is a rare breed, and is sometimes smuggled over the North Koreaโ€“China border. The dog was made a national monument of North Korea in April 1956, and the national dog of the DPRK in 2014.

GULL TERRIER

The Gull Terrier is a rare breed of dog that originates from the Punjab region of Pakistan and India; it is believed to be several hundred years old. They are often used in dog fighting, hunting, and guarding. The Gull Terrier is a direct descendent of the Bull Terrier breed that came from Great Britain. These English dog breeds, along with those indigenous to the Indian subcontinent such as the Bully Kutta, played a major role in the Gull Terrier's breeding development and are considered to be a direct ancestor of the modern Gull Terrier. Old photographs of the English Bull terrier delineate many of the same features such as height pointy ears and a long muzzle of the Gull Terrier.

NEW GUINEA SINGING DOG

Country: NEW GUINEA

The New Guinea singing dog or New Guinea Highland dog is an ancient lineage of dog found in the New Guinea Highlands, on the island of New Guinea. Once considered to be a separate species in its own right, under the name Canis hallstromi, it is closely related to the Australian dingo. The dog is relatively unusual among canines; it is one of the few to be considered "barkless", and is known for the unusual "yodel"-like style of vocalizing that gives it its name.

The Peruvian Hairless Dog or Perro Sin Pelo del Peru is a Peruvian breed of hairless dog. It is the only living breed of dog indigenous to Peru. As in other hairless breeds, coated examples can also occur.In hairless examples the skin may be any one of a wide variety of colors, with or without limited unpigmented areas, usually the legs, tail or chest; any hairs may be of any colour. In coated dogs, the coat may be of any colour but merle. Hairless dogs are associated with the Andean civilizations. The modern breed is recognized as a part of the national cultural heritage.

SARPLANINAC DOG

The ล arplaninac or Sharr dog is a breed of dog of livestock guardian type. It is named for the Sar Mountains or Sar Planina range in the Balkans, where it is principally found. It was recognised by the Federation Cynologique Internationale as the Illyrian Shepherd Dog or Ilirski Ovฤar from 1939 until 1957, when the name was changed to Yugoslavian Shepherd Dog โ€“ Sharplanina or Jugoslovenski Ovcarski Pas โ€“ Sarplaninac. In Ottoman times, the dogs moved with the flocks of sheep, spending the summer in the area of the ล ar Mountains and the winter in Thessaly, where they were known as Greek Shepherd Dogs.

Country: DENMARK

A large dog that was used as a guard dog in the homes of the wealthy. Their numbers dwindled during World War II but was saved by a small group of enthusiasts during the 1970s. The Broholmer, also called the Danish Mastiff, is a large mastiff breed of dog from Denmark, recognized by the Danish Kennel Club and the Federation Cynologique Internationale. It has been employed as a guard dog in the homes of the wealthy.

Armenia Armenian Gampr Dog After the USSR dissolved, Armenia collected together the remaining gene pool and gave an official name to this breed that had been within their culture for thousands of years. The Armenian Gampr is an Armenian breed of flock guardian dog native to the Armenian Highlands. It falls within the Ovcharka group of livestock guardian dogs, which can be found throughout the Transcaucasus area.

The Swedish Vallhund, also known as the Vรคstgรถtaspets and Swedish cow dog, is a breed of dog native to Sweden. The breed's name, Vallhund, when translated into English, means herding dog, as the Swedish Vallhund was originally bred as a drover and herder of cows over 1,000 years ago.

The Afghan Hound is a hound distinguished by its thick, fine, silky coat, and a tail with a ring curl at the end. The breed originates in the cold mountains of Afghanistan. Its local name is Sag-e Tazฤซ or Tazฤซ Spay. Other names for this breed are Tazฤซ, Balkh Hound, Baluchi Hound, and Barakzai Hound.

The Xoloitzcuintle is one of several breeds of hairless dog. It is found in standard, intermediate, and miniature sizes. The Xolo also comes in a coated variety, totally covered in fur. Coated and hairless can be born in the same litter as a result of the same combination of genes.

The Icelandic Sheepdog, is an Icelandic breed of dog of Nordic Spitz type. It derives from dogs brought to Iceland by Viking settlers in the ninth century; it is both similar and closely related to the Buhund of Norway and the Vallhund and Norrbottenpets of Sweden, which derive from the same ancestral stock. Originally brought to Iceland by the Vikings it is is the ancestor of the Shetland sheepdog and Welsh corgi. In the late 19th century over 75% of the breed were killed from plague and canine distemper.

Although named so, the breed is not actually a terrier as around 20 breeds were used in it is development including the Rottweiler, the Newfoundland and the Giant Schnauzer.The Black Russian Terrier, also known as the Chornyi Terrier, is a breed of dog from the USSR. It was originally bred in the Red Star Kennel during the late 1940s and the early 1950s for use as a military/working dog.

CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD DOG

Country: AZERBAIJAN

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog or Caucasian Ovcharka is a large livestock guardian dog native to the Caucasus region, notably Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Dagestan. It was bred in the Soviet Union from about 1920 from dogs of the Caucasus Mountains and the steppe regions of Southern Russia. Originally used by local herders to protect sheep, they were also used in East Germany in the late 1960s to serve as border patrol dogs. Once the wall came down, the thousands of patrol dogs were disperesed across Germany and Europe.

Mainly used as a sheepdog, there is still no precise origin for this breed of dog, though it has been agreed upon that their ancestors lived in the Crimea region. It developed in the areas of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union that are now Ukraine and southern Russia,

The Montenegrin Mountain Hound is a rare dog breed originating from the mountainous regions of Montenegro. The Komondor is well known for it is unusual appearance has been declared as one of Hungary's national treasures to be preserved. Their dread lock-like coat was originally desired to protect them from wolf bites while working. It usually takes around 2 and a half days for their coat to dry after a bath. The Komondor, also known as the Hungarian sheepdog, is a large, white-coloured Hungarian breed of livestock guardian dog with a long, corded coat. Sometimes referred to as 'mop dogs' due to their appearance, the Komondors are a long-established dog breed commonly employed to guard livestock and other property.

Named after the Karst landscape in Slovenia, in 2008 it was estimated between 600 and 700 exist. The Karst Shepherd Dog is a breed of dog of the livestock guardian type, originating in Slovenia. This breed is recognised by the Federation Cynologique Internationale.

BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG

Country: SWITZERLAND

The origin of the breed is suspected to trace back to the Roman invasion of Switzerland when Roman mastiffs crossed with the native flock-guarding dogs. They were mainly used as a general farm dog for guarding property and driving cattle. The Bernese Mountain Dog, German: Berner Sennenhund or Dรผrrbรคchler, is a large dog breed originating from the canton of Bern, Switzerland and the Swiss Alps. It is one of four Sennenhund-type breeds, with ancestral roots in Roman mastiffs.

BORZOI

Country: BELARUS

Belarus Borzoi Specifically bred to run at hunt at high speeds in cold climates, therefore having both a greyhound build but a thick, silky coat for warmth and protection against snow and ice. The Borzoi or Russian Hunting Sighthound is a Russian breed of hunting dog of sighthound type. It was formerly used for wolf hunting, and until 1936 was known as the Russian Wolfhound.

FINNISH LAPPHUND

Country: FINLAND

Although very popular in Finland they have not gained popularity over in other Nordic countries. Traditionally they were used to herd reindeer by the Sami people. The Finnish Lapphund is a hardy, easy going, medium-size breed of Spitz type. Traditionally it has been used for herding reindeer. Although it is one of the most popular dog breeds in its native country, Finland, it is not very numerous outside of the Nordic countries.

Country: GREECE

A very literal and modern name for an ancient Greek breed, they are widely found in Greece and popular in urban areas due to their small size. The Kokoni is a small domestic dog breed from Greece, only recently established as a standardized breed. The foundation stock, a general landrace of small dogs of the region, are widely found throughout the country.

MALTESE

Country: DENMARK

Clearly named after it is country of origin, the Maltese was originally bred to catch vermin, but it is appearance soon became a defining factor and they are well known for their long silky white hair. Maltese dog refers both to an ancient variety of dwarf, white-coated dog breed from Italyand generally associated also with the island of Malta, and to a modern breed of similar dogs in the toy group, genetically related to the Bichon, Bolognese, and Havanese breeds. The precise link, if any, between the modern and ancient breeds is not known. Nicholas Cutillo suggested that Maltese dogs might descend from spitz-type canines, and that the ancient variety probably was similar to the latter Pomeranian breeds with their short snout, pricked ears, and bulbous heads. These two varieties, according to Stanley Coren, were perhaps the first dogs employed as human companions.

The national dog of Norway, Norwegian Elkhound were bred to track down and hold moose at bay while signalling to the hunters through loud barking. The Norwegian Elkhound is one of the Northern Spitz-type breeds of dog and is the National Dog of Norway. The Elkhound has served as a hunter, guardian, herder, and defender. It is known for its courage in tracking and hunting moose and other large game, such as bears or wolves.

Also known as PON, they were almost driven to extinction during World War II and the invasion of Poland, but due the work of Dr. Danuta Hryniewicz all the PONS in the world can now be traced back to her dog "Smok". The Polish Lowland Sheepdog, is a medium-sized, shaggy-coated, sheep dog breed native to Poland.

Country: ROMANIA

Named after the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, it is thought that they are descendants of dogs developed around 9,000 years ago in Mesopotamia after sheep and goats were domesticated. The Romanian Carpathian Shepherd Dog is a large breed of livestock guardian dogs that originated in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania.

Known as the French Mastiff these dogs are unique in that they have one of the shortest lifespans of any breed. The average dog lives 5-8 years and the oldest on record was 12 years old. The Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the Bordeaux Mastiff, French Mastiff or Bordeauxdog, is a large French mastiff breed. A typical brachycephalic mastiff breed, the Bordeaux is a very powerful dog, with a very muscular body.

GERMAN SHEPHERD

Country: GERMANY

An extremely popular breed that is renowned for it is train-ability, obedience, strength and intelligence, making them perfect for many types of work. They are the second most popular dog breed in the US and fourth in the UK. The German Shepherd, also known in Britain as an Alsatian, is a German breed of working dog of medium to large size. The breed was developed by Max von Stephanitz using various traditional German herding dogs from 1899. It was originally bred as a herding dog, for herding sheep.

NEAPOLITAN MASTIFF

Country: DENMARK

An extremely large and intimidating looking breed that are mainly used as guard dogs due to their great protective instincts. A Neapolitan Mastiff currently holds the record for giving birth to the most puppies in one litter, at 24 - although 4 of them did not survive. The Neapolitan Mastiff or Mastino Napoletano is an Italian breed of large dog of mastiff type. It was recognised as a breed by the Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana in 1949, and accepted by the Federation Cynologique Internationale in 1956.

ALANO ESPANIOLO

Country: SPAIN

Known as the "Spanish Bulldog" due to former use in Spanish bullfights. As big game became rare and bullfights were outlawed they almost became extinct until the 1970s when a group of veterinary students did house-to-house surveys and bred the few examples left. The Alano Espaรฑol or Spanish Bulldog is a Spanish breed of medium to large sized dog of alaunt-bulldog type. It has at various times been used as a war dog, for bullfighting, for the management of cattle, for hunting and as a guard dog.

BRITISH BULLDOG

Country: DENMARK

Named so because they were used in the violent sport of bull baiting - the winner was the first dog to pin a tethered bull to the ground by it's nose. Over the years the dogs with the biggest heads and jaws and stockiest bodies were the ones to survive and carry forward the breed. The Bulldog is a British breed of dog of mastiff type. It may also be known as the English Bulldog or British Bulldog. It is a medium-sized, muscular dog of around 40โ€“55 lb. They have large heads with thick folds of skin around the face and shoulders and a relatively flat face with a protruding lower jaw.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a large dog breed originally bred in Southern Africa. The original breed standard was drafted by F.R. Barnes, in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia, in 1922, and approved by the South African Kennel Union in 1927. Its forebears can be traced to the ridged hunting and guardian dogs of the Khoikhoi.

The Thai Ridgeback is a dog from Thailand. Its origins are in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces in the eastern part of Thailand. The Thai Ridgeback is one of only three breeds that has a ridge of hair that runs along its back in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat.

PHU QUOC RIDGEBACK

The Phu Quoc Ridgeback is a rare breed of dog from the island of Phรบ Quแป‘c in Kiรชn Giang Province in southern Vietnam. It is one of three ridgeback breeds, the others being the Rhodesian Ridgeback and the Thai Ridgeback. It is not recognized by the Fรฉdรฉration Cynologique Internationale or any other major club.

The Alaskan Malamute is among the oldest sled dog breeds of the Arctic. The breed name is derived from the Mahlemiut, an Inuit tribe that settled in Kotzebue Sound of northwestern Alaska a long, long time ago. The Alaskan Malamute is a large breed of dog that was originally bred for its strength and endurance, to haul heavy freight as a sled dog. It is similar to other arctic breeds such as the husky, the spitz, the Greenland Dog, Canadian Eskimo Dog, the Siberian Husky, and the Samoyed.
