BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
1. Holistapet

After looking at all the benefits and pros, our number one pick is hands down the Holistapet CBD Oil For Dogs. This oil is an absolute powerhouse. This third-party-tested oil is composed of only the finest of ingredients, and is completely free of GMOs, gluten, dairy, additives, or preservatives, making it a fantastic option for almost any dog. It has the highest potency range of all of the options on our list (ranging from 125mg all the way to 3000 mg) meaning that even the smallest of pups to the biggest of hounds can reap the benefits from this versatile product.

Holistapet prides themselves on their full-spectrum CBD oil, meaning that their oil is filled with more nutrients, amino acids, and vitamins that would not be found in a standard CBD product. Full-spectrum CBD contains higher concentration of cannabis terpenes. This, paired with the excess of nutrients and vitamins, further enhances the benefits of using their oil and promotes better health with regular usage.

BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
2. CBDfx

CBDfx is a great option for your pet and it comes with a few really unique perks. For starters, this oil is the most affordable option on this list per milligram. Though you should not cut corners through costs when it comes to the health of your dogs, monthly bottles can add up fast. This brand has excellent performance despite its lower price tag, so you can keep your wallet and your pup happy.

On top of the affordable price, CBDfx is bacon flavored to aid with ease of doses. It can sometimes be a struggle to get dogs to take CBD oil, especially if they have never had to ingest something administered via a dropper. It eliminates the challenges of giving your dog CBD and can be a great choice for dogs who might be skittish or picky eaters. It is certainly great for any food-driven canine! CBDfx is a tincture, and as such is mixed with MCT oil: an oil derived from coconuts that better helps your dog absorb the CBD. Their extraction process removes almost all of the THC, leaving in only small amounts in the final product.

BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
3. cbdMD

cbdMD's CBD Oil Tincture for Dogs comes in two flavors: natural and peanut-butter. With other oils, it can be such a pain to get your dog to take them, but the peanut butter option takes all that struggle away. On their site, they also encourage owners to add a few drops to their dog's food bowl. It is simple, it is mess-free, and best of all it is a smart way to effectively administer the oil!

On top of being easy for your dog to take, the tincture is also incredibly convenient to keep stocked due to cbdMD's subscription services. The site offers three options for subscription cycles: two weeks, one month, and two months. These options are standard, but helpful, and are wonderful as options for a variety of owners with a medley of needs. Opting to subscribe also induces a hefty amount of savings, so you can save yourself time and money.

Finally, cbdMD uses a broad-spectrum formula for their CBD oil tincture. Full-spectrum oils contain all of the different compounds found in hemp, including THC. Even if it is a small amount, this THC must be refined or processed out of the oil to remove enough of it to make it safe. With cbdMDโ€™s broad-spectrum products, they do not even have to worry about this since there is no THC in broad-spectrum oils. Broad-spectrum still contains a lot of the other compounds found in full-spectrum CBD like terpenes, but it also has a compound known as cannabinol (CBN). CBN is believed to have antibiotic properties and is said to have even more anti-inflammatory qualities making this even better for your canine friend.

4. The Anxious Pet

If your dog needs relief fast, then The Anxious Pet is your brand. This is due to the carrier oil being formulated with organic coconut oil which does wonders in bolstering absorption. Overall, The Anxious Pet is perfect for anyone who prioritizes using only the best organic ingredients on their dog. Their subscription services are super convenient, and they allow options to choose how long you go between refills. The options start at a refill every month and go as high as 9 months between refills.

BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
5. PETLYcbd

PETLYcbd's Pet Hemp CBD Oil for Dogs shines entirely for their creation process. The hemp that PETLY uses is 100% organic and is grown in Colorado. The farmers there care for and nurture a strain of hemp that is especially rich in phytocannabinoid, which, similarly to full-spectrum hemp, means more nutrients, vitamins, and amino acids for your pup. Their raw hemp processing also ensures the highest quality of oil. In the warehouse, crops are dried until they are ready to be milled into a powder.

This is then sent off and shipped to be processed and refined into the finished product. After the oil has been made, PETLY moves on to distilling, and finally, refining the oil to obtain the best and highest quality results. It is during this refining process that even the tiniest amount of THC is eliminated. The refined formula is finally sent off to a lab. With PETLY, every batch of oil is tested for consistency as a way of keeping the quality of the product up. Just when you thought it could not get any better, it does. For every unit sold, PETLYcbd donates $1 to pets and pet owners in need.

18. Gold Bee CBD Oil

Gold Bee CBD oils are often listed among the upper echelon of CBD brands. They are rich in cannabinoids and other bioactive hemp-derivatives, use organic hemp plants and come with all the testing we'd expect to see from a top-shelf brand. The only reason this brand is not at the top of the list is that they do not technically sell pet-specific products. BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
19. Blessed CBD Oil

Blessed CBD is a well-known brand in the UK, but not yet available in the United States. Another UK-based option worth considering is Crush CBD. These organic, full-spectrum hemp oils come unflavored by default and deliver 500 milligrams of CBD per 10 mL bottle. There are higher potencies available as well, but these are not recommended for use with dogs.

BEST CBD TREATS FOR DOGS:
REVIEWS & COMPARISON

This article proudly presented by
WWW.KENTREPORTER.COM
and
WWW.WASHINGTONIAN.COM
and
WWW.CANINEBIBLE.COM

There are many things to consider when shopping for CBD dog treats. You want to look for high-quality CBD extracted from organic hemp. The treats should contain less than 0.3% THC, and the CBD potency should be appropriate for your dog's size. Additionally, the rest of the ingredients should be organic and high quality.

BEST CBD TREATS FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
1. Royal CBD Treats

Royal CBD dog treats are known as the best CBD dog treats on the market โ€“ they were awarded the number one CBD dog treats by both Juneau Empire and Peninsula Daily News, and for a good reason. They make the acclaimed chews via CO2 extraction, using organic hemp grown in Colorado. The CO2 extraction ensures all of the hemp compounds are preserved, resulting in an entourage effect leading to more medicinal benefits. These chews don't contain any gluten or dairy, so you don't need to worry about them causing digestive issues in your dog. Still, these dog treats are quite expensive, and they only come in a 5 mg potency, which is too much for a dog that weighs less than 10 pounds. They come in three varieties, each with its own sets of benefits.

BEST CBD TREATS FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
2. Gold Bee CBD Goofy Bones

If you are looking for the best CBD dog treats for a bigger dog, Gold Bee CBD Goofy Bones might be exactly what you need. Contrary to what their name suggests, Goofy Bones won't make your dog act goofy, as they don't contain any THC. In addition to cannabidiol, Goofy Bones contain other compounds commonly found in hemp, such as other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. These compounds create an entourage effect when combined with CBD. That means your dog will reap more benefits than if the treats were made with pure CBD isolate. Although Goofy Bones are a great CBD dog treat, they have a few cons as well. Firstly, Gold Bee extracts their CBD via the cold-press method, as opposed to CO2 extraction. Cold-pressed CBD is somewhat less effective than CO2-extracted CBD. However, 6 mg is plenty of CBD, so that is not something you should worry about too much. Secondly, these treats only come in one flavor and potency. While most dogs will like the bacon flavor, you should be cautious about the potency if you have a small dog. Six milligrams of CBD may be too much for dog breeds such as Pomeranians or Chihuahuas.

BEST CBD TREATS FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
3. Honest Paws Dog Treats

Honest Paws dog treats come in a package of 30 treats per bag, and you can choose between softer chews and crunchy bites. One treat contains 5 mg of CBD. If your dog weighs 25 pounds or less, you should give it one treat per day. Alternatively, if your dog weighs up to 50 pounds, you should give them two treats a day, or three if they weigh more than 50 pounds. Honest Paws treats contain eggs, so they are not vegan. However, they also contain organic ingredients such as coconut, oats, and barley, and they are non-GMO and soy-free. Additionally, the treats are third-party lab tested, ensuring the quality of the product. Honest Paws also use full-spectrum CBD sourced from organic hemp.

BEST CBD TREATS FOR DOGS - REVIEWS
4. Hempure CBD Pet Chews

If you have a dog that weighs less than 10 pounds, Hempure CBD Pet Chews may be the best CBD dog treats for them. These chews contain only 2 mg of CBD per treat, so you won't risk giving your small dog a higher dose than they need. Additionally, the soft texture makes these chews a great choice for older dogs that lost a few of their teeth. Treats like Goofy Bones or the Honest Paws Bites are hard and crunchy, and they can be difficult to chew. Due to the soft texture of Hempure Pet Chews, you will be able to easily break them into smaller pieces that your dog can munch on. Glycerine, sodium alginate, beef flavoring, and natural preservatives are among the ingredients you should be cautious of, especially if your dog is prone to allergies. Additionally, the chews are not gluten-free, so you should opt for one of the options we mentioned prior if your dog is allergic to gluten.

CBD is derived from either hemp - the rope and fabric stuff or cannabis, usually the recreational stuff. It can be easy to get, is purported to offer many health benefits for pets and people, and comes in anything from pills and oils to specialty chews and treats. Often, you will find CBD in the form of an oil or soft chew that can be given orally, although there are other products like biscuits and capsules easily found online. Most importantly, unlike THC - CBD's psychoactive cousin, it won't get your dog high.

There is still a lot we do not know about CBD. More accurately, we know pretty much nothing definitive about CBD because of the bureaucratic minefield that is the U.S. drug classification system. Under federal law, marijuana is a schedule 1 drug - putting it on the same level as LSD, ecstasy, and heroin. So it is amazingly difficult to even study marijuana, and the THC and CBD it contains, for medical use. Cannabis-derived CBD is still technically illegal under federal law.

Researchers believe that the two most active chemicals in marijuana that have medical applications are cannabidiol (CBD), which seems to impart its benefits without causing a "high" and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which does cause a "high" along with any medical benefits it may produce.

What is CBD Cannabidiol?
Type of hemp extract
Before purchasing CBD treats or supplements for your dog, consider the three basic types of hemp extract that exist: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate. This distinction can help you choose between all the different options on the market today.

Full spectrum: A full-spectrum hemp extract contains all phytochemicals found in the plant (even small traces of THC). THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the primary psychotropic chemical in marijuana, but this does not mean that full-spectrum CBD products will make your pet high. Instead, this kind of hemp extract offers a full range of cannabinoids and terpenes, all working in tandem.

Broad spectrum: Broad spectrum products are similar to full-spectrum since they contain other plant compounds in addition to CBD, but with one differentiating factor: The THC is completely removed.

CBD isolate: A CBD isolate product contains only CBD, with all other plant parts removed. It represents the purest possible concentration of CBD.

What is CBD Cannabidiol?
The Endocannabinoid System
You and your dog have something in common: you both have an endocannabinoid system. This system affects your brain, skin, heart, eyes, stomach - and even your mood. Similarly, your dog's endocannabinoid system affects their whole body, too. Cannabinoids are found in cannabis and plants related to cannabis, like hemp. Our bodies make their own cannabinoids, too! As the name implies, cannabinoids affect your endocannabinoid system. This is why cannabis has such a wide range of effects on the body. This is true for humans, but also for all other mammals - including dogs. One of the cannabinoids that is particularly prevalent in cannabis is cannabidiol, also known as CBD:

The endocannabinoid system is found in humans and dogs

It affects many parts of your body and its functions - including your brain, skin, heart, eyes, stomach - and even your mood

The endocannabinoid system is affected by cannabinoids, which are found in cannabis plants and hemp plants

This is why cannabis has a wide range of effects on your body

One of these cannabinoids is cannabidiol, known as CBD

As with any pet wellness trend, when it comes to CBD oil for dogs, there is a lot of information floating around the internet, and it is difficult to know what is accurate and what is exaggeration. Of course, you want to do what is best for your pup, which leads to the question: What do I need to know about CBD oil for dogs? CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis and hemp. It is essential to note that in most cases, CBD oil does not contain delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that gives marijuana its psychoactive properties. In fact, most CBD products are derived from hemp and not from marijuana.

What is CBD Oil?

Cannabidiol oil or CBD oil is a component extracted from marijuana that is used for medicinal or supplementary purposes. Most oils in this list are Full Spectrum CBD. This richly colored extract is widely recognized and cultivated for its higher concentration of terpenes. Terpenes are naturally occurring fragrance molecules that can be found in a wide variety of plants. It is basically what gives cannabis its unique musky smell and taste. It is believed to enhance the effects of CBD and the other cannabinoids found in a Full Spectrum CBD oil.

Just the smell of lavender is often enough to get one to calm down and relax - this is due to the presence of linalool: the terpene that gives lavender it is distinct smell. Cannabis terpenes work in a similar fashion and are a big part of the oil's ability to reduce anxiety. The other type of CBD oil is derived from Phytocannabinoid-rich hemp.

Phytocannabinoid-rich hemp is less concentrated with terpenes when compared to full-spectrum hemp, but comes with the benefit of containing more of the original compounds found in the plant naturally. This allows for all the nutrients to be used in harmony, which is believed to help the body process and absorb the product more efficiently and effectively. Think of it this way: when you need more vitamin C, a supplement will work in a pinch, but it is generally agreed upon that it is better to consume oranges or lemons where vitamin C occurs naturally.

What is CBD Oil?

Your body is built to process the naturally occurring vitamin C in fruit like oranges, and better knows how to extract those nutrients from naturally occurring places. Your dog is the same way. By presenting it with an oil that has a phytocannabinoid profile that more closely resembles the real thing, it will have an easier time getting what it needs out of the oil!

What is CBD Oil?
The Different Forms of CBD Oil
Any dog owner who's had to give medication to his pet knows how difficult that can be. Fortunately, CBD oil is packaged in a number of different ways which makes it relatively simple to administer.

Capsules: Dogs already habituated to taking meds in this form may not object to receiving their dose of CBD oil in a capsule, whether it is hidden in food or if you are very lucky, gobbled up just like a treat.

Treats: Here is an easier way to do it - a large selection of CBD-infused dog treats are now available online and at pet stores. You can find these treats in varying dosages, sizes, and flavors.

Tinctures: These liquids are dropped under your dog's tongue, not the easiest of tasks. However, they allow for exact dosing and the fastest results, since they are absorbed right into the bloodstream.

Topical applications: Rubbed right onto the dogโ€™s skin, these are often the best way to treat the pain and mobility problems caused by arthritis.

What is CBD Oil?
How Does CBD Affect Dogs?
Currently, there has been no formal study on how CBD affects dogs. What scientists do know is that cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid receptors located in the central and peripheral nervous systems, which help maintain balance in the body and keep it in a normal healthy state.

What Dog Health Problems Can CBD Oil Treat?
While there is no definitive scientific data on using CBD to treat dogs, there is anecdotal evidence from dog owners suggesting it can treat pain, especially neuropathic pain, as well as helping to control seizures. CBD is also used because of its anti-inflammatory properties, cardiac benefits, anti-nausea effects, appetite stimulation, anti-anxiety impact, and for possible anti-cancer benefits, although there is no conclusive data on this use.

Risks of Using CBD Oil for Dogs
The safety and risks of using CBD for dogs have not yet been researched. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved CBD and has not issued a dosing chart. Therefore, we do not know what size dosage would be toxic. Any medication or supplement carries the risk of a reaction. It is always advisable, when giving your dog something new, to start out with small amounts and then closely monitor the effects. And always check with your veterinarian first.

How Does CBD Oil Work?
There is a messenger system in your dog's body called the endocannabinoid system. It helps regulate sleep, appetite, pain, the immune system and more. CBD impacts the activity of the messengers in this system and stimulates the nervous, digestive and immune systems, as well as the brain. And it can do this because the endocannabinoids in CBD are very similar to the ones found in your dog's body. That is why the benefits of CBD can be deep and significant. And why CBD oil is the fastest-growing healthy plant in the world!

What is CBD Oil?

CBD for dogs enters the body and works with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to provide many benefits. The ECS is found in all animal species except insects, and is made up of receptors, enzymes, and endocannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system's receptors work to regulate and balance the body's hormones and functions in a state known as homeostasis. When something is off in the body, the ECS responds by making cannabinoids to fix it. The ECS works to regulate the nervous system, digestive system, immune system, and healthy function of the brain. It can also affect or improve appetite, bone growth, discomfort, inflammation, memory, mood, motor control, and the skin.

Coincidence or not, the Cannabis Sativa plant and the bodies of humans and animals are the only sources of 100% naturally produced cannabinoids. This is why CBD oil is so helpful for your furry friends. CBD oil for dogs, cats, and pets can provide the same cannabinoids their system is organically making in the ECS.

Is this Safe for my Dog?
Yes! CBD oils have been distilled and refined specifically with the mindset of removing as much THC as possible. In most of the products listed above, the THC has even been removed completely, leaving no chance for the oils to get your dog intoxicated. This is also why finding a great CBD oil is super important when looking for something to treat your dog with. Lower-grade CBD oils do not always go through such a meticulous process before being put on the shelves. These CBD oils have been listed because they are effective and safe for your pooch!

CBD oil? Is not that Illegal?
CBD oil is not illegal! To break this up, one needs to first understand the difference between hemp and marijuana. While these are both cannabis plants the key difference lies in the THC content. Marijuana has a much higher THC content of over 0.3%. CBD for dogs is formulated with the distinct intent of diminishing as much THC as possible therefore it falls into the Hemp category, containing as little to 0.1% THC, in most cases, absolutely none at all.

Can I Give Human CBD Oil to My Dog?
That depends. There are a lot of ingredients, like essential oils used for flavoring, that are not good for dogs. For that reason, we recommend only using products specified for pets. CBD oil formulated for dogs is typically unflavored or formulated with flavors like salmon or beef for a taste dogs will enjoy. CBD oil for dogs usually comes in lower milligram strengths than human CBD oil, ensuring they receive an optimal serving size to fit their canine needs.

That being said, you could technically give your dog human CBD oil so long as it is derived from hemp, contains little to no THC, and does not contain any added flavor. If you do give your dog human CBD oil, also make sure you are following recommended servings for your dog's weight.

Why is it so expensive? Can not I just get a cheaper one?
These five CBD oils have been created with the finest ingredients and procedures to create a polished product that can be used without stress. A lower grade oil, as stated before, has the risk of containing a large amount of THC or even preservatives and additives. Some are even composed of lower grade carrier oils and various fillers. All of these yucky extras can create a drastically watered-down product that does not do much more than burn holes into your wallet.

CAN DOGS GET HIGH?
HOW TO TELL
IF YOUR DOG ATE WEED?

Taryn Ziegler

The short answer to the question "Can my dog get high?" is yes. Dogs do get high, but they experience the effects differently and more intensely than humans. In other words, a dog on weed is no laughing matter and, actually, is in a high state of distress. If you are not certain whether your dog has consumed marijuana, you may observe the following signs:

Dribbling Urine

Walking like they are drunk

Beginning to fall over while standing still

Low heart rate

Low blood pressure

Wide, dilated pupils

Easily startled by sudden sounds

Can Dogs Get High? How to Tell If Your Dog Ate Weed?

If your dog is showing one or more of these signs, and there is any possibility of exposure. It is probably safe to conclude: "My puppy ate weed." Dogs have more cannabinoid receptors in their brains than people, which means the effects of weed will likely be more pronounced and, potentially, more toxic.

If you suspect your dog has consumed marijuana, please take them to the vet immediately. You can visit the ASPCA page on marijuana and the Pet Poison Hotline for additional help. The effects of marijuana can be exacerbated if your dog ingests an edible, particularly one that contains a significant amount of chocolate, or a THC-infused butter or oil.

What to Do If Your Dog Eats Pot
1. Dogs can get high, and it can be a distressing and dangerous experience.

2. The sooner you seek veterinary help, and are honest about the exposure, the better.

3. Most cases just require evaluation and mild supportive care, but some can have serious complications.

4. If it just happened and your dog is not yet showing any signs, contact your vet, your local Animal ER, or one of the animal-specific poison control hotlines.

5. If your dog is already showing signs of toxicity, head directly to your vet's office or local Animal ER.

Can Dogs Get High? How to Tell If Your Dog Ate Weed?
CAN MY DOG DIE FROM MARIJUANA?
The risk of death from marijuana is relatively low for dogs. However, the risk is greater if a smaller dog ingests a large amount of marijuana, or if your dog consumes an edible. Marijuana edibles contain a more concentrated amount of THC than dried weed alone, and infused butters and oils also pose an additional risk of pancreatitis, which itself can be potentially severe or even fatal. And, of course, there is an even greater risk if the edible contains chocolate.

Compounding matters, dogs have less ability to restrain themselves from eating too much, let alone to stop from ingesting a harmful amount of marijuana. If your dog eats any amount of marijuana edibles, you should seek help immediately either from your regular veterinarian, an emergency clinic, or an animal-specific poison control hotline.

Let's take a look at common conditions where CBD can help dogs.

HOW CBD OIL CAN HELP YOUR DOG - INFOGRAPHICS

1. Dogs With Joint Problems
If your dog has joint pain, your vet might prescribe NSAIDs or other pain meds like Gabapentin. But NSAIDs can cause deterioration in joints and soft tissues and they can damage your dog's liver. Gabapentin can also cause kidney damage. Plus, it is not all that effective. CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory that does not carry the same risk of side effects as drugs. It works by binding to CB1 receptors in the brain.

These receptors stimulate the immune system to reduce inflammation. CB1 receptors also change the way the brain responds to pain. CBD also binds to CB2 receptors found in the nervous and immune systems. When this happens, the body may produce more cannabinoids naturally. This helps reduce inflammation even more and reduce the pain associated with it.

In fact, researchers at Cornell University found that dogs taking CBD for arthritis were more active and showed a decrease in pain. Some of the common uses for CBD as an anti-inflammatory for joint problems in dogs include: Arthritis, Hip and elbow dysplasia, Sprains and strains, Torn ligaments (CCL)

2. Dogs With Cancer
Sadly, 50% of adult dogs will get cancer. Cancer is a massive health challenge for dogs, especially if they undergo chemotherapy or radiation. Cancer researchers are always looking for new ways to treat cancer and release the pain and nausea that can go with it. And CBD has been extensively researched as a cancer-fighting substance. A study in mice showed that CBD slowed the growth of mammary cancer cells. And in 2018, researchers found that CBD increased survival time in mice with pancreatic cancer. Other animal studies show CBD oil has cancer-fighting abilities and can slow the growth of tumors.

In another study, cancer cells became more sensitive to treatment with CBD. That means CBD can increase the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatments. CBD also kills cancer cells by blocking their ability to produce energy. And it can stimulate the immune system to produce killer cells that cause death in cancer cells. Researchers also found that CBD blocks a cannabinoid receptor called GPR55. This is important because GPR55 increased the growth rate of cancer cells in mice. CBD oil can also help with nausea associated with many cancer treatments. And studies have shown CBD can significantly reduce cancer-related pain.

CBD OIL vs CANCER IN DOGS

3. Dogs With Seizures
It is estimated that about 5% of dogs suffer from seizures. They can be terrifying for both dogs and their humans and they can cause anxiety. Most vets treat epilepsy and seizures with antiepileptic drugs. Common options are phenobarbital or potassium bromide. But these drugs are extremely harmful to your dog's liver and other organs. And even if the drugs do not cause unmanageable side effects, they do not always work. So researchers at Colorado State University got excited when they studied CBD as a treatment for epilepsy in dogs. A whopping 89% of dogs that received the CBD had a reduction in seizures.

In human trials, CBD even worked in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. In one study, 7 out of 8 patients saw a marked improvement within 4 to 5 months. CBD reduces the frequency and severity of seizures because of how it interacts with the endocannabinoid system. It is believed that abnormal electric charges of the neurons in the nervous system cause seizures. But CBD can bind to receptors in the brain - researchers speculate this can improve the functioning of the nervous system.

4. Dogs With Anxiety
Anxiety is a common reason dog owners turn to CBD. Anxiety can appear in different forms, including: Noise phobia, Separation anxiety, Aggression, Fear. Of course, there are anti-anxiety drugs available, but CBD is being studied for anxiety because it does not carry dangerous side effects. Most human users of CBD take it for pain, anxiety and depression. Over a third of these users report that CBD worked "very well by itself." CBD has even helped manage anxiety and insomnia in children with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). And animal studies show its antidepressant effects are not just for humans.

CBD can work quickly if given directly by mouth when your dog gets stressed. It usually only takes 5 to 20 minutes to work. But, CBD appears to be most beneficial for anxiety when given over a period of time. So if your dog is prone to stress, a daily dose might be best. A 2012 study looked at stress in rats exposed to cats. The rats given repeated doses of CBD had less anxiety than those given a single dose. Researchers are not certain how CBD relieves stress and anxiety, but it is thought that it can help regulate serotonin. Serotonin is a hormone that regulates mood, social behavior, digestion, sleep and appetite.

5. Dogs In Pain
Probably the most promising research on CBD is that done on pain. From nerve pain to arthritis, it works well โ€ฆ without the harmful side effects of pain medications. CBD binds to both CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain and nervous system and this helps change the way your dog's brain perceives pain. Plus, CBD can help manage the other symptoms that accompany pain, such as sleeplessness and nausea. CBD can also help manage acute pain from injuries.

6. Dogs With Allergies
Allergies and skin conditions are on the rise in dogs. And they are difficult to treat. The endocannabinoid system is also found in the skin and that is good news for dogs with allergies. It means CBD can help relieve dry and itchy skin. And it can promote the growth of new healthy skin cells. You can give CBD internally for allergies, or use it externally for hot spots or interdigital cysts.

Now that you know a bit more about WHY you would give your dog CBD oil to your dog. Itching, scratching, licking, chewingโ€ฆSkin issues can be very irritating to both our dogs and ourselves. Just like humans, dogs can be irritated by substances like pollen, food, insect venom (or flea saliva), dust, or even some types of pet shampoo. Itching usually affects a dog's belly, armpits, ears, paws, and cheeks.

It can go on for months and even years in some extreme cases. CBD is a possible solution: It has anti-inflammatory properties and relieves the inflammation that causes itching, hives, and blisters. Skin issues can be treated by adding CBD to the daily diet of your pet and you can try putting some CBD oil on your dog's skin.

CBD OIL vs ALLERGIES

7. Dogs With Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a very common eye condition in some dog breeds. It is manifested as the high ocular pressure which causes inadequate draining of fluids in the eye. If the condition is chronic, it can lead to partial sight loss, even to complete blindness. About 40% of dogs diagnosed with glaucoma lose their sight completely, despite the early diagnosis or treatment. High ocular pressure can also be reduced to normal with CBD treatment.

8. Dogs with digestive problems
Some dogs are just easy to feed and will eat almost everything, but problems can arise with dogs that are picky eaters. There can be a number of reasons why your dog might be picky. If your dog usually has a good appetite and you notice some changes, it could be one of many digestive problems.

Also, too many treats can spoil your dog, which could lead to it wanting to eat only that, not proper food. It is important to keep in mind and just accept that some dogs - sometimes depending on a breed or age, do not have that much of an appetite. But, if you think there is something wrong with your dog or if it is constantly picky about food, consult your vet who can recommend the best CBD food supplement. In fact, CBD treats can reduce nausea and boost appetite, as well as calm an upset stomach.

9. Dogs with aggressive behavior
Aggressive behavior in dogs is a much more complex issue. There are a number of factors that can cause canine aggression, such as medical problems, behavior issues, and trauma. It is usually triggered by a specific situation. Aggression is often managed by taking behavioral classes with your dog, and using CBD can also help your pet feel more calm and relaxed. It reduces the likelihood of your dog being triggered by specific situations and generally diminishes aggressive behavior.

Negative Effects of THC on Dogs
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
OF THC ON DOGS

and
David Louvet

THC toxicity can be dangerous for dogs if you do not give them the proper amount. Below are some common side effects your pup might experience if they are given too much THC.

Extreme Tension
One common side effect of THC for dogs is extreme tension. This is because THC can cause their muscles to tense up which can make it hard for them to walk. However, this might seem a little ironic as THC can help with relaxation sometimes. The key to this is the amount of THC given, and if you give your dog too much, your dog can become too tense for them to function normally.

Excessive Drooling
Another side effect of THC for dogs is excessive drooling. This is because THC will cause gastrointestinal problems which can increase the amount of saliva in their mouth. Sometimes excessive drooling will even indicate your dog is in pain, especially if this pain is located in their mouth or throat.

They Have a Hard Time Walking
Sometimes THC can cause dizziness and vertigo in dogs which can make it difficult for your dog to walk. THC poisoning in dogs can also cause them to sway while walking and have lethargy which could cause your dog to have difficulty getting up just to walk to their food dish.

They Lose Control of Their Bladder
If your dog ingests too much THC, it can make them very sleepy and loosen their muscles which can result in them losing control of their bladder.

They Can Become Paranoid
Sometimes dogs can become very paranoid if they ingest too much THC. This can involve them pacing up and down halls or panting heavily. In addition to this, it can also make your dog feel very anxious. Due to this, they might turn into a completely different dog and be irritable, grouchy, and maybe even a little dangerous since they are not fully aware of what is going on.

Abnormal Heartbeats Can Occur
Ingesting too much THC can cause abnormal heartbeats in dogs. This is because it can cause their body to overwork which can cause their heart to beat quickly and irregularly.

Dogs With Arthritis
If your furry friend experiences difficulty getting up, appears tired or stiff, arthritis may be the culprit. This condition is caused by the inflammation of the joints that progressively deteriorates the cartilage. Common medications to treat dog arthritis are NSAIDs and Gabapentin but may cause side effects.

Can CBD oil help with dog arthritis? - Several studies have proven CBD oils' effectiveness in treating dog arthritis without the unwanted side-effects these meds may cause on your dog. To mention a few, a Cornell University study concluded that CBD oil helped increase comfort and activity in dogs with osteoarthritis. At the same time, a study in The European Journal of Pain indicated that CBD has the potential to relieve arthritis pain-related behaviors and inflammation in animals without side-effects. CBD's anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties stimulate receptors CB1 & CB2, which prompts the immune and nervous systems to reduce inflammation by producing more cannabinoids naturally. This is beneficial to dogs with arthritis.

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with arthritis? - Our top picks for the best CBD oil for dogs with arthritis pain is Honest Paws Relief CBD oil. It is made specially to target pain and discomfort. HolistaPet or HempMy Pet are great options if your dog suffers from mild to severe pain from arthritis - they offer different strengths.

Dogs With Anxiety

You can try prescription medication, behavioral training correction, SSRIs, or even antidepressants, but nothing works better than the natural approach CBD provides when it comes to treating dog anxiety.

Can CBD oil help with dog anxiety? - The American Kennel Club reports on its website that "some dog owners have reported success in using CBD oil to treat dog anxiety." But, based on our research, we are confident that CBD can help a ton if you'd ask us. In a study assessing dog owners' views, experience, and behaviors surrounding CBD, CBD was also deemed to help reduce anxiety by over 75% of participants.

Given how the endocannabinoid system (ECS) regulates the functions of cannabinoids and works in the same way among all mammals (dogs and humans), human studies are also valid to prove the effectiveness of CBD in dog anxiety. One particular study published in the journal CNS and Neurological Disorders โ€“ Drug Targets noted that CBD has great therapeutic uses as an anti-anxiety-like and an antidepressant-like compound. Plus, there are hundred, if not thousands of CBD dog anxiety testimonials from real dog parents.

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with anxiety? - If you are looking for CBD oil for dogs anxiety amazon, stop. There is none. Dogs With Cancer
Like humans, there are a variety of cancers that affect dogs. Unfortunately, 1 in 3 dogs develops some form of cancer in their life. Symptoms include lumps, bumps, abnormal cell or tissue growth, abnormal bleeding, enlarged lymph nodes, or swelling of the bones. Some of the most common types of cancer in dogs include lymphoma, melanoma and mammary. CBD has been extensively researched as a cancer-fighting substance, but it is worth mentioning that CBD oil alone is not a cure for cancer. But research looks promising!

Can CBD oil help dogs with cancer? - For dogs with cancer, some studies have suggested that CBD can even lead to a process called cancer apoptosis, or completely killing cancer cells. Still, it is too early to consider CBD as a complete treatment method for dog cancer. A study in mice showed that CBD could suppress the growth of mammary cancer cells. Another study reports that CBD, in addition to gemcitabine (a type of chemotherapy), was able to reduce pancreatic cancer cell growth and increased survival rates threefold. Another animal research showed CBD has the properties and ability to kill tumor cells and slow its growth.

Another benefit of CBD in dogs with cancer is that it can help with nausea, loss of appetite, and pain associated with many cancer treatments. It is also been shown that CBD increases the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatments. Whether you are looking to use CBD oil to treat your dog's mouth, skin, bladder, pancreatitis, lung cancer, or any other type of canine cancer, CBD is an excellent ally that could drastically help with this condition.

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with cancer? - When buying CBD oil for dogs with cancer, you should look for the most natural, organic, and high potency. Our top recommendation for the best CBD tincture to treat dog cancer is Canna-Pet Advanced MaxCBD. It provides the best potency to combat a serious illness like cancer. HolistaPet & NuLeaf Naturals are also excellent choices.

Dogs With Seizures & Epilepsy
If your dog has a seizure, some common signs are falling on their side and start twitching, foaming at the mouth, stiffening, jerking, or uncontrollable shaking and can last from less than a minute or more. Epilepsy is just the term used to describe repeated episodes of seizures. The current drugs to treat dog seizures have intolerable side effects or do not work well enough.

Does CBD oil for dogs help with seizures? - A groundbreaking study at Colorado State University found that 89% of dogs who received CBD in a clinical trial had a reduction in the frequency of seizures. Furthermore, the National Institute of Health has published research demonstrating that CBD is an effective anticonvulsant with strong reductions in epileptic seizures in rodents. It is believed abnormal brain activity in the motor cortex (electric charges of the neurons in the nervous system) causes seizures. CBD works on CB1 brain receptors, altering brain chemistry, reducing the chances of a seizure. Some theories claim CBD calms the neurons firing during a seizure.

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with seizures? - HempMyPet is among the best CDB oils to treat dog seizures. THC-free options like cbdMD Paw CBD Oil or Joy Organics would also be a fantastic alternative. CBD oil dog treats for seizures are also a good option for preventive care, but if your dog is having a seizure and you need to stop it right away, a tincture what you need.

Dog Pain
Your dog may be in pain for many different reasons, including arthritis, bone disease, old age, hip and joint disease, dental problems, accidents, and more. Whatever the reasons may be, CBD can help. Yes, CBD has been effective at relieving pain in animals. Studies report CBD enhances the signaling of anandamide, an endocannabinoid transmitter known to be involved in the regulation (damping) of pain. A 2017 study published in the Journal of Pain found that local administration of CBD blocked osteoarthritis pain in rats. Subsequent studies done on rodents discovered that CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), are useful in the management of challenging-to-treat pain. Furthermore, a 2018 review assessed how well CBD works to relieve chronic pain concluded that CBD was effective in overall pain management and did not cause negative side effects.

Dogs Thunderstorms, Fireworks or Phobias
Dog noise related phobias can take a toll on your dog's health and well being. Sudden, loud noises can trigger anxiety and erratic behaviors on some dogs, causing many of them to run away, jump through glass or fences, trembling with fear or horrible injuries. Whether you are looking for CBD oil for dogs on the 4th of July, New Year's eve, or maybe you just want CBD for dog thunderstorm or fireworks anxiety, CDB can certainly help with whatever noise related phobias your dog may have. CBD can mimic serotonin in the brain by binding and activating the body's 5-HT1A serotonin receptors. Serotonin is the key hormone that stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness, thus the calming effect CBD has on taken.

A study in The Permanente Journal in 2019 found that CBD could hold benefits for anxiety-related disorders (noise-phobias). Another research demonstrated CBD's ability to trigger the ECS to produce more natural cannabinoids, like anandamide (a neurotransmitter). This is important in treating noise-related phobias in dogs because anandamide guards against the effects of stress and reduce behavioral signs of anxiety and fear, according to a 2019 study. Anandamide has also been called the "bliss molecule" for its role in activating cannabinoid receptors in brain cells, heightens motivation and happiness.

Dogs With Hip Dysplasia
Dog hip dysplasia is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that can cause lameness and arthritis of the joints. This kind of joint disease can cause limping, inflammation, difficulty getting up or lying down, decreased activity due to extreme pain to your dog. Dogs with hip dysplasia deal with this kind of pain and inflammation on a daily basis.

Can CBD help with hip dysplasia in dogs? - CBD acts as a powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory that help manage the pain and inflammation. CBD suppresses the inflammatory response and subsequently attenuates disease symptoms through suppression at inflammatory sites and upregulation of FoxP3+ or cells in charge of maintaining the immune system's immune tolerance and homeostasis. It basically suppresses pain signals traveling to the brain. In addition, CBD has been shown to prevent the formation of oxidative stress and inflammatory activity in animals and dogs. CBD can help alleviate hip dysplasia symptoms and give dogs with this condition a better quality of life, less discomfort, and more mobility.

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with hip dysplasia? - For treating hip dysplasia in dogs, we recommend HempMyPet CDB oil. If your dog is under a lot of pain, you may want to pick a CBD oil like Canna-Pet or MediPets for extra potency and effectiveness.

A study indicated that the endocannabinoid system might target the treatment of immune-mediated and inflammatory disorders such as allergic skin diseases in dogs such as atopic dermatitis - an itchy skin disease in dogs. Further research also observed that hemp seed oil increased many essential fatty acids in the skin and relieved atopic dermatitis symptoms.

In fact, another research found that ECS plays a key role in maintaining skin "homeostasis," or the balance of skin cells and its proliferation, survival, and more. More research showed CBD could act as a cytoprotective compound (a compound that protects cells against harmful agents) against UVA or UVB Irradiation. Other benefits of CBD seem to help with are skin dryness and possible skin growth and development but the latter needs more research.

What is the best CBD oil for dog skin problems? - NuLeaf Naturals CBD Oil droplets are is an excellent choice for skin problems in dogs. Lazarus Naturals and Medterra CBD brands are also great solutions. These three brands are organic and offer some of the most natural formulas.

CBD can greatly reduce the pain and inflammation associated with IVDD is preserving the quality of life of your dog. When you administer CBD to your dog, pain signals to the brain are reduced while also actively fighting inflammation around the body. A study showed CBD could slow down intervertebral disc degeneration (damage) in animals. This degeneration is what essentially IVDD is.

More research found that endocannabinoids (like CBD) acting through "CB1 and CB2 receptors are part of an early neuroprotective response triggered after Spinal Cord Injury that is involved in the spontaneous recovery after an incomplete lesion." Meaning, that endocannabinoid like CBD plays an important role in recovery from spinal cord injury. Loss of mobility is a serious symptom of IVDD. Still, CBD not only can reduce the dame to the spinal cord, but scientists showed that it also could improve locomotor functional recovery - suggesting that it could be useful in the treatment of spinal cord lesions. So, yes! There you have it folks, more incredible stuff CBD oil can do for your pets!

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with IVDD? - There are many great CBD oil options for dogs with IVDD but we like HolistaPet, cbdMD Paw CBD and Canna-Pet and dog oil brands.

Dogs With Tumors
Many dogs often have lumps and bumps that are completely benign. However, tumors can be malignant (cancerous). Can CBD help with dog tumors? - If you have read our previous CBD and dog cancer section you know Cannabidiol has been shown to have anti-tumor effects. Further research, however, conducted by Colorado State University (CSU) has found that CBD slows the growth of cancerous brain tumors and is toxic to both canine and human brain cancer cells. Both the CBD isolate and extract's anti-cancer effects had almost entirely equal rates of success.

In another study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology reinforce the evidence of CBD's antitumoral properties. It showed CBD could inhibit the migration of tumoral cells. One more study indicated that cannabidiol (CBD) could reduce tumor growth and size. Findings from these studies on the anti-tumoral benefits of CBD oil in dogs suggest cannabidiol could be a useful therapy for dogs' tumors.

Dogs With Cushings Disease
Cushing's Disease (CD) is an endocrine disorder system disorder and health issue that occurs when a dog's body produces too much cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that helps the body respond to stress, control their weight, fight infections, keep blood sugar levels in check, and a wide range of processes throughout the body, including metabolism and the immune response. You can see now why too much or too little cortisol can be life-threatening!

Can CBD oil help a dog with Cushing's Disease? - We already know CDB oil has killing-tumor cells properties (read our cancer & tumor CDB sections), so that is more than half of the battle won at treating CD as this health condition is mostly caused by tumors in the pituitary and adrenal glands. Once the tumors are gone, the hormonal cortisol imbalance and symptoms caused by CD will then be reduced or eliminated as well. Research has shown that cannabinoid receptors - receptors can be activated by cannabinoids like CDB, are found throughout the endocrine system, including the pituitary gland.

They found these receptors play a key role in our response to stress and the hypothalamic-pituitary changes. Activating these receptors is known to have a clear effect on sleep cycles, stress levels, appetite, food intake, energy balance, and even metabolism. The endocannabinoid system is known to influence hormone levels and regulates our stress responses. In fact, a study on the effects of cannabidiol on cortisol found that CBD can directly affect the secretion of cortisol.

What is the best CBD oil for dogs with Cushing's Disease? - Our picks for best CBD oil for dogs with Cushing's Disease are Medterra, 4 Corners CBD or King Kalm

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a naturally found substance in cannabis and hemp. Both deliver amazing health benefits, but there are differences. Cannabis (marijuana) contains a relatively large amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is what causes the psychoactive activities of cannabis. It is why marijuana can give a "high" or "buzz." Hemp contains much lower amounts of THC.

To sell hemp legally, it must contain less than 0.3% THC. So while your dog can still enjoy the calmness and reduction in anxiety that CBD provides, he won't get high. And that is important, because you might enjoy the high, but your dog definitely does not! Your dog will also get the same pain-relieving and immune-supporting benefits from hemp CBD. But not all hemp products are the same...

HOW TO CHOOSE BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS

One of the more advanced methods of CBD supplementation for both humans and their pets involves boosting the effects of a CBD oil with terpene concentrates. Adding just a few drops of a high-quality terpene concentrate can dramatically improve the potency and overall benefits of a CBD pet oil. There are dozens of different terpenes in hemp, each offering a unique benefit, a few examples include:

1. Bisabolol - sedative effects

2. Pinene - anti-inflammatory effects

3. Linalool - sedative and stress-relieving effects

4. Myrcene - anti-inflammatory effects

5. Limonene - mood-supportive effects

6. Lavandin - anti-anxiety effects

HOW TO CHOOSE BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS

1. Look For A Full Or Broad Spectrum Hemp
Check the label of your CBD product to make sure it is full spectrum or broad spectrum. This means your dog's CBD oil contains not just CBD, but other important cannabinoids that occur naturally in full-spectrum hemp. This includes CBC (Cannabichromene) and CBG (Cannabigerol). Researchers have looked at CBC for its Cancer-fighting activities, Ability to block pain and inflammation, Positive effect on brain cells. CBG is also studied for its medicinal use. It can decrease inflammation in the digestive tract and it can protect nerve cells and the eyes. It also supports healthy bladder function and fights cancer cells.

A full-spectrum CBD will also contain terpenes such as limonene, alpha-pinene, and beta-pinene. These are also naturally occurring medicinal substances found in all hemp. Together, cannabinoids and terpenes create the entourage effect. This happens when compounds in hemp oil work synergistically to boost the medicinal properties of hemp oil. CBD extracted with CO2 pulverizes the terpenes. This will make them hard to detect in testing and they won't show up on the Certificate of analysis, but they will still be there and will contribute to the CBD oil's medicinal effects. CBD extracted with solvents will better preserve the terpenes. So you will find them noted on the Certificate Of Analysis.

2. Make Sure Your Dog's CBD Uses CO2 Extraction
There are two common ways to extract the CBD oil from the hemp plant: CO2 Extraction - As you have probably guessed, CO2 extraction uses carbon dioxide to extract oil from the plant. Using a high-pressure chamber, CO2 puts pressure on the hemp. This breaks down the hemp and releases the oil. This method of extraction creates oils with a higher concentration of CBD. That means your dog will get more from his supplement. Of course, that also makes the product more expensive, but it is better than the alternative.

Solvent Extraction - The cheapest way to extract oil from the hemp plant is with solvents, such as Propane, Butane, Petroleum products. But residue from these solvents will be in the product and they can be toxic to your dog. Some CBD extraction uses natural solvents, such as ethanol or olive oil. This is much safer for your dog but these oils can destroy the hemp plant's waxes and the resulting oil is not as beneficial.

3. Look For A Certificate Of Analysis
If your dog's CBD oil does not have a certificate of analysis (COA), run away! A certificate of analysis is a document that shows the amount and type of cannabinoids in the CBD product. And it usually comes from a third-party laboratory, COAs protect your dog from poor quality products and the manufacturer should have one for each batch of hemp. If there is not a COA on the company's website, you will want to ask for one before you buy any CBD oil. When looking at the COA, there are 5 important things to look for:

CBD Is The Same As Advertised - This is more common than you would think - in fact, we were once tricked by this! What you might see is something like "500 mg CBD" on the product label. But do not take the label at face value! Make sure the COA says the same amount as the label does. Some lab tests express the CBD content in mg/g. So to calculate the amount of CBD, you need to know how many grams are in the bottle of CBD. For example, let's say the COA shows 16.9 mg/g CBD. To calculate how much CBD is in the product, multiply the number of mg/g by the number of grams the bottle weighs. A typical 1-ounce dropper bottle of CBD will weigh 30 grams. This will give you the total mg of CBD in the bottle. In this example, it is 507 mg (16.9 mg/g x 30 gram bottle).

CBD Is Really Full Spectrum - Again, never take the label at face value! Some CBD is from isolate, which means it won't have other important cannabinoids and terpenes. Remember the entourage effect? You won't get this extra boost with CBD isolate. So how do you find out if your dog's CBD is from isolate? The COA will show that the product only contains CBD and no other cannabinoids. Stay away from these products.

There is Not Too Much or Too Little THC - If your dog's CBD contains more than 0.03% THC, it is probably marijuana and not hemp. It is not legal and your dog won't enjoy the psychoactive effects. You also want to avoid products with NO THC. If there is none, then your dog's CBD is from isolate and the health benefits will be fewer.

A Third-Party Did The Tests - Once again, never take the manufacturer's word that the product is of high quality. Make sure the product was properly tested by a third party lab. Unfortunately, the CBD industry is not regulated, which leaves you vulnerable to poor products.

There is No Contaminants - You need to know where and how the hemp that is used to make the CBD oil is grown. This plays a huge role in those test results you see in the COA. Always look for an organic product to reduce any environmental toxin risks. You want to know that the soil and water it is grown in is as clean as possible. That is because hemp plants are really good sponges and can absorb contaminants as they grow. And it is why heavy metal toxicity can be a concern when looking at CBD oils. So be sure that you check the COA for any contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals and solvent residues.

4. Cost Should not Be A Priority
It can be hard to compare products and some people give up and look at costs only, but this is not the best approach! You want a high-quality and safe product for your dog. Extracting CBD from hemp requires a lot of plant material as well as careful monitoring. If the product you are considering has a price that is significantly lower than the competition, there is probably a reason for that. But the most expensive does not mean it is the best CBD oil for dogs!

5. Caution With CBD Oil Additives!
You want to be sure there are no chemical additives or preservatives in the product you buy. These will cancel out the health benefits, even if the hemp is grown organically. Also be aware of companies who have added essential oils (EOs) to their CBD oil. Even if they say, "natural", EOs can affect animals profoundly. If your holistic vet has recommended using a CBD oil with an EO, then follow their dosing recommendations. They will know what is best for your dog's unique health needs. Some will recommend using CBD with frankincense as it is good for tumor reduction in cancer patients. But always check with your holistic vet or herbalist first.

6. Dogs Taking Other Medications Or Supplements
If your dog is taking any other medications or supplements you will want to check with your holistic vet as well. CBD oil has many health benefits but it can change how your dog is able to metabolize some medications or supplements. Researchers have looked at how CBD oil changes metabolism in humans. It can be similar to grapefruit, which causes significant reactions. So if your dog is taking any of the following medications you will need to ask your vet about dose changes: Steroids, Allergy medications, Liver or kidney medications, NSAIDs, Heart medications, Anxiety medications. Hopefully, your holistic vet has helped you find alternatives to the medications above. But even then - CBD can affect herbs and natural supplements. This does not mean you can not give your CBD oil if he uses other supplements or medications. You may just need to make adjustments. CBD changes the metabolism of other things but sometimes for the better! Meaning you can use less of another product or skip on the medications altogether.

BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS - REVIEWS

In recent years, CBD oil has become the keystone therapy for our dogs. Providing relief from pain, to anxiety, to seizures, and much more. CBD lends a plethora of benefits for your furry friend, and can greatly improve holistic wellness and overall quality of life. CBD oil that is created for the purpose of treating pets is similar to that of humans. But ultimately the process is unique. For starters, dogs are generally a lot smaller than people, a heavily weighted factor that is considered when formulating the potency of the final product.

On top of this, all oils are distilled and refined with the mindset of having a finished product with components and properties that are more suited for a dog. A large amount of THC in a CBD oil can be dangerous to a dog's health, which is why every reputable company that made the cut has gone through the lengths necessary to remove all, or as much as possible when creating a CBD intended for usage on canines.

HOW TO DETERMINE BEST CBD OIL FOR DOGS
While CBD oil can help your pet feel great, not all CBD oils are made with the greatest ingredients. When beginning to make this list, there were factors we always had to keep in mind in order to find the best of the best. Quality of Ingredients, Concentration of CBD, Potency Options, Value for the Cost, Flavor. After sifting through various brands and products, these are the CBD oils that we found to be best for your dogs based on these criteria.

The quality and effectiveness of their products make them a cut above the rest. For example, a high concentration CBD oil might be great for owners with bigger dogs, but a chihuahua owner might go for something a little less potent just for ease of dosing. A picky dog might also prefer an oil with a more intense meat flavoring. It is important to keep an open mind, and if the first attempt does not turn out to be an immediate hit, do not hesitate to try out another brand.

The Types of Extracts
CBD oils are made into three primary extracts. Although there are certain DIY methods that people have been using for some time now, the most common extracts you will see advertised include:

Isolate - Isolate is when all of the components of the hemp plant are stripped to leave just the CBD. This method is popular because it contains 0% THC - the psychoactive component in marijuana that gets you "high", as well as gives an experience some people prefer in containing only CBD.

Broad Spectrum - Broad spectrum is a minimally processed version of CBD, containing less than 0.3% THC. It also often hosts other parts of the cannabis plant giving off an "entourage effect", which many believe heightens the experience. This is a good in between of isolate and full spectrum, which is the least processed version of CBD.

Full Spectrum - Finally, full spectrum CBD is the least processed and contains the most original plant particles. Cited as the strongest entourage effect, full spectrum oils are used by CBD enthusiasts who want the most out of their product. Like broad spectrum oils, full spectrum varieties also contain less than 0.3% THC.

Potency
The potency of a CBD product is almost always measured in milligrams (mg). This is essentially the strength of the product, where the higher the milligram per volume, the stronger the dosage will be. The same is true for other ingredients often found in CBD oils such as CBG or melatonin, which helps humans sleep. For your dog, the milligram will be determined by their weight. Most brands with dog specific products will recommend based on small, medium, or large breeds. Some exceptions do occur, such as with dogs who have particularly painful chronic conditions. Consult with your vet if you are going to be giving you dog CBD daily or on a regular basis.

Lab Results
As we stated above, any CBD oil company worth taking is going to include their lab results. Companies that do not have their lab results, or their lab results are not updated within the past year, should be knocked out of your consideration - especially since this is something you are taking yourself or giving to your dog. Furthermore, it can sometimes be a smart idea to back check the lab that they used for testing to ensure that the results were not forged.

Size Variations
CBD oils often come in a few different sizes including 150 mg, 300 mg, 600 mg or up to 1500 mg in some cases for dogs - however, the first three are the most common. The sizes are done by breed size, unless of an exception.

Price
CBD oil is not exactly cheap regardless of it is for a pet or human. However, that is not to say you can not find a good value. Most monthly doses will cost at least around $1/day. The benefit though is that you are paying a baseline for value rather than deciding through the math. Finally, check in with the lab results to cross compare to ensure you are getting a fair shake on the dosage.Brand Transparency. Any brand worth buying is going to have a certain sense of transparency. This includes lab results, pricing, farming practices, locations, and even reputation online. Look through reviews on social media to see if they offer responses to questions, as well as can backcheck all their claims about the impact of their product and where it is from.

Customer Service
While it is often something people only think about when they need it, customer service is vital to building life-long customers. This is why we often backcheck with response rates and staging scenarios to ensure that you are getting a fair shake, however, looking through what other people say about the experience can serve a similar purpose as well.

Company Policies
What a company offers on shipping and return policies can say a lot about where they stand on their product and customers, as well as the effort they put in.

Website Experience
As a CBD brand is one you might need to order from or reach out to on any device, it is important to test that their website is easy to navigate and access. People should be able to cycle through the website seamlessly regardless of how much experience they have online. Plus, how much a company invests in their website also dictates how much they are willing to put into their product as well.

When it comes to giving your dog CBD, you have got a few different options. The easiest and most effective way by far to administer CBD oil to your dog is directly into their mouth. Simply draw your desired serving into the dropper and slowly extract the tincture into their mouth. Some dogs will happily lap the oil up drop by drop, but others are a bit more finicky. In that case, you could also give your dog CBD in a treat. Just drop the oil onto their favorite snack and they will probably gobble it up.

There is also the option of CBD dog chews, which can be great because they come with a perfectly measured serving and your dog is sure to love them. That being said, most CBD dog treats are available in low servings, meaning you might have to give a bigger dog quite a few treats to meet their recommended serving. This is something to keep in mind when your dog requires a larger serving of CBD, as too many treats might not be the best choice for their diet.

Placing the CBD Oil Directly in The Mouth โ€“ Place the dropper directly in your dog's mouth and slowly squeeze. Give a treat afterward to be sure your dog has swallowed everything.

Mixing the Oil Directly with Your Dog's Food or Treats โ€“ This works better with dry food or treats, which will absorb the oil, while wet food may not properly blend with the oil. Leave a few minutes before letting your dog eat, so the CBD oil is properly absorbed. Strong tasting snacks such as peanut butter work great too.

Diluting the CBD Oil with Water โ€“ Since quality CBD oil does not have much of a taste or smell, your dog may not notice if you add it to their water. This might not work well if your pet does not drink water frequently, however.

How do I give CBD to my dog?
THC vs. CBD for Dogs
CBD is one of over 80 different chemical compounds called "cannabinoids" that have been derived from the cannabis (marijuana) plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), perhaps the most famous cannabinoid, CBD is not psychoactive. Instead, CBD shares important metabolic pathways with a class of drugs called NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen and Rimadyl. These pathways control many processes in the body, from inflammatory responses to blood clotting. Do not give dogs straight marijuana or any product containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component of marijuana. There is simply not enough research to justify the use. CBD-based products, however, may help improve your dog's quality of life when used in conjunction with other therapies.

Many pet owners often wonder what CBD dosage is right for their pup. Unfortunately, there are not any standard dosing guidelines for pets provided by veterinarians and exact dosing recommendations can vary by the size of your dog. The company has found that these baseline dosages are sufficient for 70% of pet owners that use its products, but in some instances, a dog may need more than the recommended starting dose.

HOW MUCH CBD OIL TO GIVE TO DOGS? CBD OIL DOZING INSTRUCTIONS & CALCULATOR

If this is the case, it is usually best to slowly increase the CBD dosage and carefully monitor your dog's reaction to find their perfect dose. Regardless of what CBD products you purchase for your dog, please consult your veterinarian before starting a CBD regimen. And pay attention to the packaging of the CBD product to make sure you know exactly how many milligrams are contained in each drop of oil. Here are some baseline dosing recommendations to start your dog off with CBD (based on weight):

10 pounds - 2 milligrams
20 pounds - 4 milligrams
30 pounds - 6 milligrams
40 pounds - 8 milligrams
50 pounds - 10 milligrams
60 pounds - 12 milligrams
70 pounds - 14 milligrams
80 pounds - 16 milligrams
100 pounds - 20 milligrams

CBD OIL DOZING INSTRUCTIONS & CALCULATOR
How Much Shall I Give My Dog?
Generally, each brand will have instructions for how to properly calculate dosing, but often it starts with identifying the size or weight of your dog. Each brand listed above has a few sizing options for each of their oils. This may be odd to say, but this is not like chips. With chips, you have "snack-sized" or "family-sized," with the family-sized just meaning a bigger bag of chips. Here, the larger doses equate to a higher potency product. Basically, the more milligrams listed for a bottle of CBD oil, the more highly concentrated it is. This is a key thing to keep in mind when picking your CBD oil. A lower potency oil is typically formulated with smaller breeds in mind like Pomeranians, Dachshunds, or Pugs.

Giving them a higher potency oil created for larger breeds like Great Danes of Chau Chaus could be extremely dangerous and puts them at high risk of overdosing. Different sources claim different dosing amounts, but it is generally accepted that a dog should receive a milligram of CBD per 5-10lbs of body weight (roughly 2.2-4.5 kilograms). If this sounds confusing, do not worry, as a lot of brands will have their own instructions for how to properly administer doses to your dog.

In most cases, you find your dog's weight range, pick a potency level that has been formulated for your dog's weight, and from there it is just following a measurement on a dropper. They might have you give them the entire dropper or just part of it depending on what you are looking for or if it is your dogs first time trying CBD oil.

CBD OIL DOZING INSTRUCTIONS & CALCULATOR
How often should I give my dog a dose?
For regular usage, certain brands will either recommend once or even twice a day. This is especially good for owners worried about their dogs having seizures or even just owners who want to improve their dog's skin and coat health. Daily doses would also be a good amount for any dog dealing with minimal to significant discomfort or pain as it can reduce those certain sensations.

In some cases, owners might want to use CBD oil more sporadically. If a dog deals with severe anxiety on the daily then sure- daily doses sounds like a reasonable thing, but what about a dog that maybe only feels anxious during car rides? It would not make sense to give this dog CBD oil daily, especially if they have no other underlying conditions or problems.

CBD OIL DOZING INSTRUCTIONS & CALCULATOR
Can a dog overdose on CBD oil?
If we presume that you are able to legally obtain CBD oil for your dogs, whether that be through a medical prescription or an over-the-counter purchase, what are the next steps? It is important that people understand the nuances between how humans take CBD oil and how it is best administered to pets like dogs. There are some big differences that we will discuss. It might feel like we are stating the obvious, but the right dosage of CBD for you is not necessarily going to be the right dosage for your dogs! On rare occasions, dog owners may report that their pets have received negative side effects after taking CBD products, such as CBD oil or CBD treats. Some of the reported side effects of CBD for dogs include: Hyperesthesia, Lethargy, Vomiting, Ataxia

We should note that these side effects in dogs are rare. If your dog is experiencing any of these side effects, you could seek the advice of a veterinarian. However, in most cases, they will simply advise that you, the dog owner, provide the pet with comfort until the effects eventually wear off. The amount of CBD that a dog can have will depend on their breed and size.

Initially, vets are likely to encourage a small dosage of CBD, advising you to gradually increase the dosage over time. As the dog owner, this will give you ample time to monitor the effects of CBD on your pet and adjust the dosage accordingly. Like any new food supplement that is being introduced to dogs, it is always best to start small and gradually increase the dosage.

CBD OIL DOZING INSTRUCTIONS & CALCULATOR
How Long Does it Take CBD to Start Working?
CBD takes 30-45 minutes to start working. As a rule, oils tend to kick in a little faster than biscuits or treat just because there are fewer ingredients for furry bellies to break down first. But there is no difference in effectiveness between the two.

CBD OIL DOZING INSTRUCTIONS & CALCULATOR
How Long Does CBD Last For?
Each dose - whether from oil or biscuits lasts from 4-8 hours. That is a big spread, we know, but the duration can vary a lot depending on your dog's size, activity level, breed, and the severity of their symptoms. But as a good rule of thumb: older pups tend to take longer than younger ones to digest food.

The worst thing for dog owners is to see their pup go through various health problems as they age. It is hard to watch them suffer from aggravating symptoms and slowly lose all their enthusiasm. Although vets recommend taking different prescription medicines, yet many times, they offer little relief. In this article we look at the benefits of CBD oil for ageing dogs. With advancements in studies advocating promising effects of CBD, you can give your pet the care they deserve through CBD oil. The popular supplement is an all-natural way to treat elderly pups and save them from many vexing health problems. Many scientific studies claim the humongous health benefits of CBD for ageing dogs.

1. CBD helps to reduce pain in senior dogs
For ageing dogs, effective pain management is the key to maintaining the quality of life. This pain may be caused due to an injury, surgery, arthritis, or any chronic progressive disease. The cannabinoid in CBD has shown to work well for pain. It regulates the production of a chemical known as anandamide. An increase of this chemical in the body is associated with reduced sensations of pain in the pet's brain. Furthermore, CBD oil for ageing dogs also helps to reduce inflammation in different parts of the body. Inflammation is a significant contributor to pain for many older or handicapped dogs. Typically, pain and inflammation are treated with NSAIDs. Although these medications are very effective, they come with potential side effects such as chemical dependence and liver damage. The cannabinoid receptors in CBD target areas in the body that are experiencing pain due to injury, inflammation, or damaged nerves. Thus, it also helps to improve your ageing dog's mobility.

2. CBD increases appetite and fights nausea in elderly dogs
A healthy diet plays a vital role in enhancing the ageing dog's life. Getting the right nutrients in the body is vital to gain strength, especially when battling a serious sickness. However, many health conditions reduce appetite. As a result, dogs become weaker and even more vulnerable. CBD oil works to counteract this effect by increasing appetite. According to research, CBD not only improves appetite but also reduces the symptoms of vomiting and nausea. It triggers the sensation of hunger, helping dogs stay fit and healthy.

3. CBD helps elderly dogs with anxiety
A lot of dogs, especially older ones, suffer from stress and anxiety. They go through all the emotions and phobias that a human feels. Common triggers of anxiety among dogs are separation from their owner, death of their cubs, displacement, and extremely loud noise. When stressed, they may show symptoms like aggression, too much barking, expelling in strange places, etc. According to a study, CBD helps to reduce stress and anxiety in dogs and improve their mood. The cannabinoids in CBD attach to the receptors of the ECS, which helps to soothe the mind. The amazing oil also helps older dogs to feel restful and calm, even in intense situations.

4. CBD oil helps to improve digestion and reduce gastrointestinal diseases
A lot of ageing dogs experience indigestion and gastrointestinal problems. These may arise due to any serious illness or mental shock, impairing the body's natural digestive ability. CBD can help to regulate metabolic health and improve digestion. It also treats inflammatory conditions, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Apart from this, many studies have found CBD oil helpful for reducing stomach swelling, bloating, leaky gut, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Good digestive health keeps your pet cheerful and full of energy.

5. CBD oil lets your pet have a good night sleep
Owing to many reasons, your ageing pets may find it difficult to get a sound sleep at night. This lack of sleep may be due to inflammation, injuries, or recovery from critical illness. Continuous pain may also make your pet feel angry, agitated, and moody. Besides, lack of adequate rest may make your pet prone to nerve problems or even cardiovascular diseases. CBD oil is known to help dogs get a restful sleep. The cannabinoids in CBD interact with the ECS receptors that help to eliminate the sensation of pain in the body. This improves mood and induces sleep. A good night's sleep helps to boost the immunity of dogs. It also helps to lower the blood pressure as well as reduce the risk of infections, stroke, and diabetes.

If you have spent any time researching cannabis for dogs, and specifically cannabidiol (CBD), you have probably found yourself wondering whether these products are safe, and even if they will offer any real benefits for your pained, anxious, or elderly dog. It is difficult to provide a definitive answer about the medicinal uses of cannabis - for either dogs or human, due toconflicting federal and state laws and a resulting lack of study.

Regardless of the broader debate about marijuana, it is no laughing matter if your dog accidentally eats your weed. Additionally, be cautious when considering treating your dog with marijuana or CBD for any reason. Just because it may be working for you or a friend of yours, that does not necessarily mean that it will work or be safe for your dog. Unfortunately, medical studies have been hindered by marijuana's designation as a Schedule 1 drug by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), along with the costs and difficulties in procuring marijuana for study. Nonetheless, many people believe that cannabis helps treat various ailments and pains in themselves.

Similarly, many people believe that cannabis, specifically the CBD component offers many benefits for dogs. Please, note that, again, such claims are not currently backed up by clinical evidence for humans or canines. Anecdotal evidence suggests that CBD and THC may help alleviate a variety of conditions, but a great deal of scientific and medical work is still needed. The following list outlines a few conditions that people feel are alleviated by the use of CBD products in their dogs:

Arthritis

General pain, including pain from cancer

Lack of appetite

Nausea

Cognitive dysfunction

Epilepsy and seizures

Stress and anxiety, including travel anxiety and separation anxiety

IBD and other inflammatory diseases

Lupus and other autoimmune disorders

Should I Consider Using Medical Marijuana for My Dog?

Vets do not have anything definitive to say about marijuana or CBD products for dogs because, as mentioned above, they have limited means to study the potential benefits and, more importantly, the potential for harm. Add to that the fact that a vet could face disciplinary action - even loss of license to practice for discussing, recommending, or prescribing cannabis for their patients, and you can see why vets' lips are collectively sealed on this touchy topic. At best, you might find a vet who will say that CBD probably won't be harmful to dogs, and it may or may not offer any actual benefit.

Is Secondhand Marijuana Smoke Bad for Dogs?
Marijuana users who choose to smoke, rather than eat, their weed, might also wonder if dogs can be hurt by secondhand smoke. First, understand that just like a human getting a "contact high," your dog can still get high from marijuana smoke.

If you are in an enclosed space with a stifling amount of smoke, you may be putting your dog and yourself at risk. If your dog has a preexisting respiratory disease such as bronchitis or a collapsing trachea, you are placing them at an even greater risk by smoking nearby. For small amounts of smoke in ventilated areas, it is less likely your dogs will experience any side effects. If you do choose to smoke near your dog, be sure to monitor them for unusual behavior or difficulty breathing. More importantly, do not blow smoke in your dog's face - it is just cruel.

CBD vs. Weed
First and crucial things first: you never want to give your dog pot, in any form. THC probably won't kill him, but since dogs have more cannabinoid receptors in their brains than people, they will get higher than we do โ€“ and they won't know what is happening. They will be likely to recover, but they can get quite sick and will often require veterinary care.

The good news is that there is no reason to give your pet cannabis if he os suffering from pain or a debilitating disease. Most of the medical benefit of marijuana is actually provided by the CBD it contains, not the THC. So treating your puppy with CBD oil, naturally with your vet's approval, will treat his symptoms or pain without the risk of giving him THC-loaded weed. Better yet, CBD is not dangerous for dogs unless they are given too much.

Side Effects Of CBD Oil For Dogs
The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association surveyed dog owners. They wanted to see what, if any, side effects they noticed. And the great news is that there were not any major effects reported. The most consistent side effects noticed were:

Sedation 19%

Overactive appetite 5%

Lack of energy 4%

Panic reactions 2.7%

Dry mouth / Excessive drinking 2.3%

Nausea 1.7%

Vomiting 1.7%

Increased seizures 0.69%

Impaired mental functioning 0.68%

This means the most likely side effect you may see is that your dog gets sleepy. And that is not a bad thing. Especially if your dog suffers from seizures, anxiety, or has any pain, and you'd like to give CBD oil a try, but some CBD oils will have other additives and may not be safe.

How Do Veterinarians Treat Dogs Who have Ingested Marijuana?
HOW DO VETERINARIANS TREAT DOGS WHO HAVE INGESTED MARIJUANA

Marijuana poisoning most commonly occurs as a result of oral ingestion. Dogs especially enjoy the taste of marijuana and will often eat any form they can get their paws on, including buds, plants, joints and even baggies. Of course, this list also includes baked goods containing marijuana, such as cookies or brownies. While pets suffering from marijuana poisoning may look and act like inebriated humans, it is important to remember that they are not having fun. They are extremely anxious and neurologically impaired. If a pet eats an edible containing chocolate, it is even more imperative to seek medical treatment.

Can Dogs Get High? How to Tell If Your Dog Ate Weed?

To reiterate, if your pet has ingested marijuana, it is important to contact your veterinarian immediately. While many pet owners are embarrassed to admit that their dog ate marijuana, it is very important to be upfront about marijuana poisoning as the signs of toxicity so closely resemble many other neurologic conditions. Keep in mind that we cannot effectively help your pet if we do not know what we are treating. Remember that our priority is your dog's well-being. Veterinarians are not obligated to report cases of marijuana toxicity to the police and have no interest in pursuing any legal action against you.

Treatment for marijuana ingestion depends on how recently the ingestion occurred and how affected the dog is. The one thing that is for sure is that the earlier your dog is brought in, the better. If caught very early, a dog may be able to receive treatment to "decontaminate" them - to get it out of their system and avoid or minimize any of the potential effects of the marijuana. In mild cases, treatment is typically supportive in nature. Meaning that if your dog cannot effectively or safely eat or drink on their own, they may need IV fluids. Some dogs may require "heat support" if they are having trouble maintaining their body temperature.

For dogs suffering from an altered heart rate or blood pressure, IV fluids and specific medications may be necessary, along with continuous monitoring of their vital signs. If a dog develops aspiration pneumonia due to vomiting with an altered mental state, then they are likely to need oxygen therapy and IV antibiotics. Similarly, specific treatment for edibles containing chocolate, butter, or oils may also be needed for the unlucky dog that consumes that particular combination.

Can Dogs Get High? How to Tell If Your Dog Ate Weed?

It is important to remember that your vet is not going to rat you out if you bring your dog in for treatment. Your responsibility to your dog is to get them the best medical attention possible by informing your vet if you think the dog consumed marijuana and in what form. Unfortunately, the urine test kits for people are not as reliable in dogs. If weed is not known or admitted as the culprit, other toxins, or conditions like liver disease and seizure disorders, have to be considered and tested for. And those tests are not cheap. It is far easier, less costly, and safer for your dog if you are honest with your vet. No one will judge you.
